The Bureaucrats of War
Vietnam War was started under false pretenses
Americans celebrated Vietnam Veterans Day earlier this week. What some of our citizens do not know is that the war was started under false pretenses. As a Vietnam vet, I have been resisting this “rumor” since the Gulf of Tonkin incidents of Aug. 2 and 4, 1965. I have railed against it because, like so many men and women who served in Vietnam, I had invested much mental and physical capital into the war. I refused to accept such hateful hearsay.

The winery experience
Our time living in Sonoma was a special part of our lives, we reminisce about it frequently. Our time working at wineries though, Mary at Chateau St. Jean and me at Balletto Vineyards, was extraordinarily valuable. Being right there, where it all happens, witnessing everything from vineyard operations to winemaking to bottling provided perspective and knowledge for us that is simply irreplaceable for what we do now.
All in the swing
I have always marveled at individuals that possess the tenacity in their personal life to rise above their circumstances. Circumstances that often seem insurmountable or beyond one's physical or emotional limits. In my physical therapy practice we often see people that have been dealt a difficult hand in life, and they have a hard decision to make: to give up, or take one slow step at a time and move forward into a new life. Individual strength often stalls when their is physical and emotional pain present, and often, as physical therapists, this is where we step in to help.

Pain affects one-fourth of our population. The typical approach to pain is to mask it. For instance, a person has joint pain. He self-manages it until it’s so bad he seeks medical advice. When these new symptoms become problematic he’s given more medications! The next thing you know he’s in a medication merry-go-round.

There are many reasons why the state of Idaho shouldn’t take over national public lands. The state would lose money, as the University of Idaho Policy Analysis Group study showed. When management costs exceed revenues, or the state gets financial offers it can’t refuse, the places Idahoans hunt, fish, camp, hike and paddle likely would be sold to the highest bidders.

Sleep disorders in kids
Parents, you are usually the first-line persons to recognize that there a potential problem with your child in almost every area of your child’s life! Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) includes snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS), obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and obesity hypoventilation syndrome. OSA is a condition in which the tongue, tonsils, or adenoids completely obstruct the airway for 10 seconds or longer more than once per hour during sleep for children. And OSA may be overlooked by medical professionals — dentists and medical doctors — because the symptoms may not be recognized, and the seriousness of the health consequences of undiagnosed OSA may not be well known to the examining doctor.

POLICE: Greater presence OK
Why do the politically correct progressives get all bent out of shape and start throwing conniption fits at the suggestion of a greater police presence in communities where there is reasonable suspicion of the presence of terrorists’ cells?
ART: Adding to burden
This isn’t making sense. The city of Hayden spent $58,233.46 plus another $24,154.00 for a piece of art in front of Hayden Library. The next day in the Press, libraries in the Community Library Network (Athol, Spirit Lake, Post Falls, Hayden and Harrison) are now asking for a $5 million levy for upgrades? Instead of spending money on “art,” why didn’t they spend the money on road repairs? Another example of wasteful spending of taxpayers’ money.

Who the heck are the Liningers to make comparisons between Nazi Germany “Jack booted, goose stepping Gestapo members” and our local police? Anyone who has taken the time to understand the work and dedication shown by our local law enforcement should take great offence at this comparison.

KROC RX: Not for everybody
Reading the stories about Dr. Abate’s medical tactics to get people to exercise the pain out and have group sessions about those in REAL PAIN — physical and mental by exercise. Myself, being one who is, being a person who has a few medical problems that doctors are quick to dismiss by saying I need to exercise more, work through pain and the mental issues will go away. Well, I do a lot of exercise, work through pain, caretake for my husband, doing all the heavy lifting, even him. I grimace through the pain, tears down my cheeks most days. And I can’t unsee or bleach my mind of PTS. I’m not asking for anything other than would help my long days and into the nights. I’m offended most visits by being put in a box with addiots. I depend on these legal medicines.
The importance of discipline
Departing Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning’s determination to win Super Bowl 50 against the favored Carolina Panthers was riveting. It reminded me of a quote he gave earlier in his career: “Being there every week for my teammates is really important to me. It’s about accountability.”
RIGHTS: Zone change errors
Another case of money talks and the will of the people walks. Judge Rich Christensen miraculously just found an outdated county zone change ordinance which permits a rich developer and the Silver Hill Land and Cattle Co. and Mort Construction to overturn a county board decision which denied a zone change. Refer to CDA Press, Friday, 3/25/16 issue.

VOTE: Deny democratic socialism
The educated Progressive Liberal elite; those with the Ivy league degrees, who have thought all this through, are promising you they can bring about a humane, a fair, a collectively redistributed “Utopian” society. They must convince the masses of our public school, new media saturated undereducated to “democratically” vote for those who promise to take from the haves, the “Robber Baron” corporations, and the filthy uber rich and any other person or entity that has “too much,” and righteously redistribute it to those who simply cannot make a life for themselves any other way.

About hearing aid batteries
Hearing aid batteries usually cost about $1 a piece. A size 13 hearing aid battery (the most common size) in a well-working hearing aid usually lasts 7-10 days, or approximately one week. Some of the newer aids are getting up to three weeks. If your hearing aid is going through quality batteries in less than one week, your hearing aid is probably malfunctioning and should be checked. If you have a really small hearing aid with the tiny (size 10) battery, you may only get five days out of a battery.

Stop snoring or die
Snoring is more than just loud noise, it is a warning sign of a bigger problem that has serious consequences. Pain is more than just something to get rid of; it is a warning sign of something more serious. Pain may be from a cut that may become infected, it may be from a tooth that has an abscess, it may be from your bite that is out of balance from the left side to the right side. But pain always indicates that there is something wrong that needs your attention. And the attention you need it is not to cover up the pain, but to find the cause of the pain and get rid of that cause.

Feeling emotional pain
Emotional pain hurts more deeply than any physical pain a person might inflict on one’s body. The soul carries more pain receptors than the flesh. Losing a daughter to cancer, a friend to suicide, a coworker to disease or a father to dementia hurts to the core of one’s being and the pain lingers.

The real roots of racism in America
I learned as a young child that everyone should be treated equally. That good behavior, respect for others, and honesty were paramount moral principles. The Ten Commandments represented the simple guidelines for living. As a sophomore in high school, I witnessed the forced integration of blacks into white schools in Little Rock, Ark. I was shocked by a newscast that showed a white Christian woman slapping a 7-year-old black girl walking through a white neighborhood on the way to a white school. I knew it was wrong then, and it would be wrong now.

CARRY: Badge versus bulge
All in the law enforcement community have a right to express their various opinions regarding Permitless/Constitutional Carry; however no one has a right to change the facts in order to fit their opinion. Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White is quoted by Brian Walker saying, “Right now if I see you walking down the street and there is a bulge consistent with an outline of a firearm that appears to be concealed, I can legally stop you for the minimal amount of time it takes for me to validate you are a permit holder.” Nothing can be further from the truth! I am not sure where Chief White got this idea or if he was misquoted, but this is not true in Idaho. A bulge in the clothing alone, is not probable cause to detain and question anyone.

Local physician to offer free vein screening
March is deep vein thrombosis (DVT) awareness month. DVT affects up to 600,000 people per year, and may lead to 60,000 to 100,000 deaths per year from complications. RIGHTS: Here's one view
Tony Stewart and his merry band of extreme liberals scare me more than any outdated KKK or imaginary Nazis. We are lifetime residents and veterans who proudly say stay away from us and preach your gestapo style left-wing ideology to a bunch of socialist leaning, anti-gun, anti-God zealots. Why do Idahoans accept Stewart and Wood? We don’t. They should be condemning their own who don’t condemn the shooting of a poor pastor or when their gay mobs threaten a wedding chapel, pathetic pseudo-rights commission.
The necessity of persuasion
We are in the thick of the most unusual political seasons I can remember. Who would have imagined the slate of presidential hopefuls that spans the spectrum? And what will it take for the candidates to convince voters that they should lead the country?
Early spring brings early bargain hunters
Spring has arrived in North Idaho with crocuses, daffodils and tulips popping up everywhere. With the departure of the last low level snow, folks from and foreign to North Idaho are beginning to show more interest in getting out and investing in some of the great real estate values in North Idaho.
ROTARY: Get a clue
The Rotary is an arm of the Masons? Who knew! This information most likely comes from the same source as those who call the Masonic Fraternity a “secret society.” Does anyone recall seeing a hat declaring the wearer to be a Mason? Or recall seeing a Mason wear a ring proudly displaying his membership as a Mason? Or maybe you recall driving up Fourth Street in Coeur d’Alene, or in Wallace or Sandpoint or Rathdrum and seeing a building with Masonic symbols and the name of the lodge gracing the building and making itself known to the world that is where the Masons meet.
LOSS: Community eases pain
This community is amazing. We recently lost our daughter, Cathy Hobbs, to cancer.
AMADOR: One great candidate
A couple of years ago, my wife Susan and I got new neighbors (not an uncommon event for us since we’ve moved seven times in our 50 years of marriage). This time it was different. We stayed where we were and a delightful young couple moved in next door. At the “neighborhood getting to know you party” we realized what a wonderful thing had just happened.

TRUMP: Good for one thing
Why would any intelligent, logical voter vote for a childish, boastful, crude Donald Trump when they have the golden opportunity to elect a qualified, capable, personable all-American like Gov. Kasich or a brilliant man like Dr. Carson to be president of our great country?
TRUMP: Going too far
At debate, Trump wanted to go beyond waterboarding. How far beyond? Whippings? Thumb screws? Electrified wire applied to genitals? Burning bamboo strips jammed under fingernails?
IRAN: Pay them back

The new range wars: Could food supply follow manufacturing across borders?
Free grass and range wars make up much of our western lore and literature. Here in Idaho, our heritage is deeply rooted in the livestock industry. Our current Lieutenant Governor’s grandfather, Andy Little, ranged more than 120,000 sheep from Emmett to Cascade. Former state Senator, Governor, and U.S. Senator Len Jordan supported his family by running sheep out of Kirkwood Bar below Hells Canyon during the Depression. This heritage lives on for many of us who grew up in rural areas of the West.

Stolen Valor
All of us who have served honorably deserve the distinction of our service. We show our military pride in our actions in society, and of course in the war stories that seem to be embellished over time. Sort of like telling a fish story that portrays the fish quite a bit bigger than it really was. We wear military caps to show our branch of service, and in a more formal setting we wear our service uniforms adorned with our ribbons of achievement. Wearing ribbons and medals, by the way, is voluntary for service members, and allowed to be worn on our service organizations uniforms at military events.

This is a superfund site, as admitted by IDFG personnel at a public breakfast held in February.
Preventing Alzheimer's disease
Experts agree that in the vast majority of cases, Alzheimer's disease, like other common chronic conditions, probably develops as a result of complex interactions among multiple factors, including age, genetics, environment, lifestyle, and coexisting medical conditions. Although some risk factors cannot be changed, other risk factors can be managed to help reduce risk. Most often late onset cognitive dysfunction is a combination of vascular dementia (not enough blood flow), brain inflammation, and other factors.

The visit by Ted Cruz on Saturday drew large crowds to the Kootenai County Fairgrounds but despite the fact that Idaho’s four electoral votes don’t generate much excitement in the big picture of winning the nomination, he’s not the only presidential candidate who’s paid a visit to North Idaho in recent years.
Savor the flavor of eating right
March is National Nutrition Month® in which the theme is “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right.” What does this mean to you? Eating slowly to savor your dish? Reducing portion sizes? Using savory spices and herbs to try new dishes? The overall intent of National Nutrition Month® is to create awareness about how we are eating and what small changes we can make to be healthier by making informed choices. Year after year messages are consistent — adapt healthy eating habits and engage in physical activity.
Teasing hurts
Being bullied, teased, harassed or intimidated by a friend is hurtful and often has lifelong effects. Everyone has a story of being teased for having red hair, blonde hair, green hair or no hair. Harassed for being overweight, skinny, too muscular, too flabby or possibly even too normal. We often reciprocate the teasing by attacking our friend’s imagined shortcomings.

The story behind Daylight Saving Time
Weather or Not
On Sunday, March 13, most U.S. and European residents will move their clocks forward one hour. Daylight Saving Time is the cycle that starts in the second week of March and ends in the first week of November. The main purpose of this time change is to provide more daylight hours, which allows us to use less energy in lighting our homes. One big reason the clocks are returned to Standard Time in November is because children would be going to school in the dark as the sun would be rising later in the morning.

FEAR: Strikes close to home
The current climate of fear has seeped into my neighborhood. My next door neighbor observed my son cutting across her lawn and entering my backyard gate. She immediately called the police tip line. Four cop cars and multiple officers converged on my house, beating on the front door, harassing my son, questioning the fact that he lives here and demanding to see the owner of the house. When my son explained that the owner was resting, the officer would not leave or let my son close the door until the officer was allowed to come in and see the owner resting in his bed down the hall. In the meantime, three other officers entered the house without authorization.

CRUZ: The right choice
After extensive research on each of the Republican candidates remaining, I have chosen to support Ted Cruz in this year’s election. I am writing this letter with the prayer that I can win Cruz a few more votes. Why is Cruz a good choice for President? He is pro-life, and will protect an unborn baby’s right to life. He believes taxpayers should not have to pay for abortions and will defund Planned Parenthood. He will fiercely protect our right to bear arms, as he has already done as a U.S. Senator. He will close the borders, end President Obama’s amnesty on Day 1, and increase deportations of illegal immigrants.

You really want to know the state of Idaho’s Legislature? It has blood on its hands. Idaho takes federal money for wind storms, ice storms and wildfires, and even more money for schools, and highways. Race relations seem to be getting much worse, not better, with the politically correct labels that have been chosen for the black race. Things have definitely improved since the 1960s, but that had nothing to do with political correctness.

Idaho should restrict individual cities from setting minimum wage standards. Experiencing the European wines of 2011
The struggles of domestic winemakers in 2010 and 2011 are well documented. Both years were cool, wet and rain shortened at harvest. 2010 also included a four day heat wave that destroyed the last hopes for many winemakers, as they were approaching an already questionable crush. While 2010 still produced some notable bright spots and was not nearly as bad from a quality perspective as our worst fears, 2011 was more uniformly bad, the highlights were few. Perhaps the one ironically good thing is that both years produced meager crops: while it was bad for cash flows, the wines were out of the market quickly, as just not very much wine was made.
