Marlene H. Stein, 66, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away March 17, 2016, at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene.

Marlene was born Dec. 9, 1949, in Marion, Ind., the third of six children to George and Esther Helms. She attended schools in the Gas City area and graduated from Mississinewa High School, where she participated in drama club, band and cheer team. Following high school, she attended Purdue University where she met her husband and started a family.

While raising three young boys, she became heavily involved with Boy Scouts of America. This involvement remained constant during numerous moves and address changes. During this time, she was involved with scouting in Indiana, Montana and Idaho. Marlene was ultimately awarded the Silver Beaver by the B.S.A. Panhandle Area Council.

During this time, Marlene also returned to college and received a degree from North Idaho College and academic recognition from Phi Theta Kappa for her academic excellence.

Following graduation, she worked as a pottery lab assistant until her retirement. Marlene loved working with her hands and was a skilled seamstress as well as a knowledgeable and creative potter.

In recent years, her passion shifted to her grandchildren, ranging in ages from 3 1/2 to 23, in an attempt to support their needs and wishes.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Lanny; sons Timothy and wife Kristin, Kristopher and wife Cinnimon, and Jason; grandchildren Sky, Ethan, Lydia, Hannah and Autumn; as well as two sisters and three brothers. Goodnight until we meet again. We will truly miss you.
