Library managers named at Rathdrum, Athol

| March 23, 2016 9:00 PM

The Community Library Network has named new library mangers at Rathdrum and Athol.

Linda Mahon is the new manager at Rathdrum, replacing Sandy Burnett. Jill Roche took the reins in Athol, replacing Barbara Broughton. The positions became vacant after the previous managers retired.

Mahon came to the library district from the Coeur d’Alene Library, although for most of her professional life she worked as a high school librarian in western Montana. She received her undergraduate degree from University of Montana and her master’s in library science from Emporia State in Kansas.

"This library has a great history with established events that are well-attended," Mahon said. "I’m excited to be in Rathdrum and look forward to getting to know the community."

Roche, who took over in Athol, has worked at the Community Library Network at Post Falls for more than four years. With a bachelor's degree in botany and more recently, a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Idaho, she comes to the position well-equipped to delve into the gardening community.

Roche was attracted to library service because she sees the library as more than just books.

"Libraries are community-minded and have a positive influence on the community," she said. "I like that they are always changing for the better."
