<p>Courtesy photo</p><p>Parker Overby, an eighth-grader from Canfield Middle School, has been selected to represent the Emerald Empire Youth Ski League at the 2016 USSA Western Regional Championships in Jackson Hole, Wyo., March 10-13. Overby goes as the top seed, winning four of the six qualifier races this season. Competing for the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School, he will race against 60 of the top skiers in the Western U.S. in all three events — slalom, giant slalom and Super G.</p>

Soccer: The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department announces registration for youth spring soccer for boys and girls age 5 or grades K-8.

Registration will be held through March 11 from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. at the rec department office, located at 710 Mullan Avenue in the lower level of Coeur d’Alene City Hall.

The league will start in mid-April and runs through the end of May. Registration fees are $11 for Coeur d’Alene city residents and $22 for non-city residents.

Mini-kickers soccer: In conjunction with the Coeur d’Alene Sting Soccer Club, the Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department will offer a camp-style soccer activity for 3 and 4 year olds.

Registration begins March 1 and will continue until full. There is a limited number of openings.

This consists of 4 one-hour sessions on Saturday mornings.

Sting Soccer Club will facilitate each Saturday session with parent participation encouraged. There are no practices.

Players must bring a size 3 soccer ball. The first session begins April 9. Youths must be at least 3 years old on April 23. Cost is $30.

Coeur d’Alene Sting under-12 girls gold: The Sting defeated the Maple Valley Marauders 2-0 last Saturday in their opener in PSPL Classic 1 division play in Maple Valley, WA and won 2-0. Goals were scored by Olivia Wyatt and Sophia Allan. Gaby Roberts had one assist, and Danika Nowak had the shutout as keeper.

The Sting then played the Fife Milton Edgewood Fusion to a 0-0 draw on a windy and rainy morning game on Sunday in Milton, Wash. Danika Nowak had the second shutout of the weekend in goal.

Sting boys U12 gold: The Sting tied Cascade FC B03 Green 2-2 in its first PSPL match of the spring season. Walker Jump and Alex Reyes each scored one goal for the Sting, and Miles Jones had two assists.
