Irene Gleason, 83

| March 2, 2016 8:00 PM

Irene Gleason passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene surrounded by her entire family. She was born Irene Alma Hendrickson on Feb. 16, 1933, in Marshfield, Wis., to Edward and Amelia Hendrickson. She spent many of her younger years in Minnesota, before moving to Trent, S.D., where she met Duane, her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years. They moved to the Hayden area in 1953 and have lived here ever since.

Irene was an active bowler for years and an early member of the Hayden Lake Fire Department Auxiliary in the 1960s and ’70s. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers, camping and hunting with her brother, Maynie and his wife Bobbie. She loved spending time with all her kids and many grandchildren, rarely missing their games and events, and was especially proud of being a great-great-grandmother. She was an avid Zags and Mariners fan, and looked forward to her daily talks with her sister-in-law, Bobbie.

She is survived by her husband, Duane; children JoAnn (Terry) Gordon, Debbie (Tom) Stroud and Steve (Diane) Gleason; grandchildren Tanya, Brad, Greg, Brian and Brandy; great-grandchildren Ashlynn, Brittany, Ryle, Kyler, Bailee, Cole, Alayna, Wyatt, Owen, Amelia and Lexi; and great-great-granddaughter Peyton and Piper Jo due in June. Also survived by siblings Donald (Roberta), Myrthal (Bill), Ellie, Aggie and Alvera; sisters-in-law Bobbie Janice and Helga; brother-in-law Darwin (Marcia); and many nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Addy; siblings Melvin, Arnold, Maynard, Dora and Viola; and father and mother-in-law Voyne and Enid Gleason.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in care of the arrangements.
