According to the legend, having become disenchanted with the establishment governing the town, the Piper, dressed in bright colors and playing his flute, paraded through town attracting the children who followed him with great enthusiasm and excitement until the Piper led them out of town, never to be heard from again.

The story has become an appropriate metaphor for the current supporters of flamboyant Donald Trump, whose bragging, belittling, bellicose behavior finds frenzied and wildly devoted followers marching along behind him into what will be political oblivion.
