H.C. Studer, 75

H.C. Studer, 75, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, passed away March 9, 2016, at Honeysuckle House in Hayden, Idaho. H.C. was born Nov. 4, 1940, in Modesto, Calif., to Herman and Helen (Simpson) Studer.

As a child, H.C. moved with his family to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he attended school until the eighth grade and the family moved to Worley, Idaho, where he attended and graduated from high school in 1959. He then went on to the University of Idaho where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science with minors in veterinary science and biological science.

After graduating college, H.C. joined the United States Marine Corps, became a 1st Lieutenant, and served two tours as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War, drilling wells and constructing water systems. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Canada. There he worked as a Livestock Specialist for Canada Packers. He later worked as a Production Manager for National Grain Company (Cargill) for a $1 million hog farm with 12,000 pigs, before moving back to the United States and starting his own hog farm (initially as a multiplier of Pig Improvement Company, Canada), just north of Bonners Ferry in 1970. He worked his hog farm of more than 1,800 pigs for 25 years and finally went out of business in 1995. He then worked as a mortgage agent, serviced water well pumps and constructed local water systems, and finally be became a USDA Food Inspector (Meat) in the Pasco, Wash., area until retiring in 2005.

He was first married to Lois Boehm-Frazier, and later Danette Myers-Studer.

H.C. was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry where he was a member of the choir, and an usher. He was most recently on the Mission Creek Water Board, and active member of several organizations over the years: Boundary County School District Advisory Board, Boundary County Planning and Zoning Board; President Idaho Pork Producers Association, Chairman of Supervisors for Boundary County Idaho Natural Resources Conservation District, President of Boundary County Farm Bureau Federation, and All American Pork Producer in 1979.

He loved tinkering with cars, fishing, and watching basketball and football.

H.C. is survived by his children, Lanore (Steve) Riebli of Sebastopol, Calif., Daren (Kim) Studer of Bonners Ferry and Duane (Grace) Studer of Hauser, Idaho; one stepson, Jason (Bernadette) Myers of Hayden; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ben, Vern and Warren Studer.

A memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6784 Cody St., Bonners Ferry. Inurnment will be held at 3 p.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
