Said sale will be made without covenant or warranty, express or implied, regarding title, possession or encumbrances to satisfy the obligation secured by and pursuant to the power of sale conferred in the Deed of Trust executed by BRIAN J ZUTTER, A SINGLE PERSON, as Grantor(s), to PIONEER TITLE COMPANY, as Trustee, for the benefit and security of WELLS FARGO BANK, N.A., as Beneficiary, dated 7/13/2011, recorded 7/13/2011, as Instrument No. 2319960000, official records of Kootenai County, Idaho. Condo sales get a boost
Changes in how the Federal Housing Authority views loans on condominiums may provide a boost to local real estate. Our condo sales this year have been strong, outpacing 2014 by 37 percent but it has been challenging for buyers to get financing. The rule changes early this month though will remove some of the roadblocks faced by would-be buyers and should bolster the selling prices somewhat.

Less suffering would lead to a safer world
The recent terrorist attacks in Paris have rightly stirred the Western world. The response to this violence fails to address long-term resolution. The terrorists have had the hoped-for effect of promoting fear. In our emotional response to this tragic event, we further the agenda of the terrorists. By barring the door of immigration we ensure that the non-combatant refugees of Syria will be made to further suffer after losing everything in an effort to reach freedom and security for themselves and their families.

Looking back on a 1653 pilgrim home
John Alden gazed beyond the deck-rail of the ship, MAYFLOWER. The time is December 1620 and the ship is anchored in the New Plymouth harbor of Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts. Directly in his sight is the cold, uninhabited, tree-lined shore of the site selected for the Pilgrim’s home. A new nation was not even a glimmer of light at that time — and even though the candle of liberty was imagined, it was not even close to reality.
What environmentalists miss in forest health debate
The recent “My Turn,” authored by Janet Torline and captioned “Forests threatened by federal proposal,” would have been more accurately captioned “Forests threatened by Kootenai Environmental Alliance.” I lost most of my respect for their organization when they began appealing all thinning and burn recovery projects. Many of their members seem to be paranoid. Our forestlands have far too many trees per acre to remain healthy. The climate is warming, bark beetle populations have skyrocketed and root-rot is a major problem in some areas.
Government's role in refugee issue
Americans are a people of immense charity, eclipsing all other nations in the speed and degree of our willingness to help others. Like a lifeboat in a turbulent sea, we offer salvation to those in desperate need. But this largess is finite as we are but 5 percent of the world’s population. It is not unreasonable to imagine that there is another 5 percent of the world, one in 20 that would eagerly seek refuge among us. Such an influx would overwhelm our abilities, overloading our lifeboat to the point of disaster. Countries, like lifeboats, must have capacity limits so that those that can be saved are saved.

RENO, Nev. — Longtime Reno Air Races family Brian and Sherawn Reberry of Boise jumped to the Jet Class this year when they sold their unique Reberry 3M1C1R gull-wing Formula One race plane to Thom Richard of Kissimmee, Fla., and bought a Polish-built jet trainer, the PZL TS-11 “Iskra.” Purchased only a month before the races, Brian Reberry did not have time to learn to fly it and certainly had not qualified to race by flying in the Pylon Racing Seminar (PRS) earlier in the summer. Now almost two months after the air races, Brian Reberry has become comfortable with the TS-11 and its flight capabilities.
Giving thanks for the Givers
The holiday season usually provides the time and inspiration for us to reflect on and appreciate the good fortune in our lives. We may donate money, food, or toys to a local charity; we may post daily expressions of gratitude on our social media accounts; we may take a moment to say a silent “thank you” for all that we have, particularly when confronted by news stories of suffering and despair.

Avista, it is time
Now that the power is back on for customers across the Inland Northwest, fallen trees are cut up and disposed of, and repairs are underway to damaged property, the time is appropriate to reflect on the most recent weather emergency and its impact on our lives. Having lived in the area for 25 years, this writer has experienced fire storm (1991), ice storm (1996), the wind storm of 2003 and the latest event. In all these events, an average of one per six years, the electric power distribution system and weather in the form of high winds or freezing rain have teamed up to cause widespread property damage and even wider spread disruption of our lives. The average power outage has been three days, but the extremes have ranged out to a week and a half. Yet, it might have been far worse. If the most current event had occurred a month and a half earlier, there would likely have been a repeat of firestorm on a much more massive level.

Being thankful
Thanksgiving! I have plenty to be thankful for this year but as I age, I wonder what is really important. I see people struggling with addiction, some losing family members, many without a meaningful profession or without a dependable income. I’m thankful for my friends, family, coworkers and my community. I take little for granted.
POWER: Just fix it, please
Just found out why we don’t have power on Lundsford Lane and area. Avista and Kootenai Electric are arguing over who is responsible. One says they own the poles and the other says it’s not. As of this writing, we are on our sixth day already. We pay our bill to Avista. So get the blasted thing fixed!
REFUGEES: Let's debate the issue
Dear Mr. Reeves,

PEAKS: Born to be wild
I recently read a letter to the editor about the proposed Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Area written by Mr. Stan Myers. He questioned the idea that the area should be designated as wilderness because future generations might want to develop the area’s timber and mineral resources.
High cholesterol and heart disease
Cholesterol has gotten a bad rap over the last several decades; however it is one of the most important molecules in your body. It is found in every cell in your body, not just the bloodstream. It helps produce hormones like estrogen, testosterone and progesterone. It helps produce bile acids to digest fats. It helps produce cell membranes and insulates nerve cells. In your skin, it is transformed by sunlight into vitamin D. It is important for brain health and helps you form memories.

COLA: Time for fairness
I’m writing to express my concerns about this year’s zero percent cost of living increase in Social Security. As a senior, I rely on Social Security benefits, and I know that our Social Security system’s only shortcoming is that its benefits are too low.
REFUGEES: Vetting far from OK
A slew of Democrat lawmakers feel our current process for vetting refugees is adequate, yet insist the current process for law abiding American citizens to possess a firearm are inadequate.
The best use of 'best of' lists
In my mailbox last night was the most recent installment of the Wine Spectator top 100 list. This is one of the most anticipated rankings of wines when it is released each December. For good reason. The number of reviews annually in the Spectator is exhaustive, and the top 100 issue is their culling of all those reviews for the 100 wines they think the most of, although the phrasing and the focus of that list has shifted a bit. This year, the cover of the issue reads “the 100 most interesting wines.”

Gratitude written
Years ago, one of my amazing clients gave me a cookie jar. It was made of glass with letters etched in black on it that said, "Thankful Jar." She had made it especially for me. She told me in her family they had a jar too, and when you have things you are thankful for, you write them down on a slip of paper and put it in the jar. She then beautifully described the things that come up in the gratitude jar.

Make a mineral rich broth from turkey bones
In the previous article we discussed the wonderful, health-building benefits of the broth acquired from your turkey bones. Originally just called “chicken soup” and used for a myriad of health conditions, the benefits and use of these broths is enjoying a resurgence. Now referred to as “Bone Broth” or “Bone Stock”, it can be found at upscale and specialty restaurants. Even the marrow is served with a tiny spoon as a delicacy in many restaurants around the world, including in the U.S. And it is becoming increasingly more popular with mothers and others desiring to get more nutrients into their family’s bellies.
STORM: No match for teamwork
Tuesday’s storm was of a magnitude that few expected. With all of Lakeland Joint School District’s students in school, we needed to get them home safely. If it wasn’t for the efforts of many helpers, the job would have been more difficult and time consuming. Trees had fallen and blocked roads and bus drivers indicated that people came from nowhere with chainsaws or a hook and chain and moved trees out of the way so our buses could pass safely.
THANKS: NIC students serve us well
Heartfelt thanks to Jeremiah Brands and the Associated Students of North Idaho College for hosting a free community Thanksgiving Dinner at NIC on Saturday.
SAFETY: Low marks for police
The Coeur d’Alene PD has been “dropping the ball” in public safety. Deciding not to pursue a case or omitting facts in a report or prejudices by an officer have led to the decay of the public’s trust in the department. An academy offered to help the public understand how they function is simply a disappointing way to avoid answering for the ongoing complaints. Laziness or a lack of investigating crimes results in injustices going unpunished therefore leaving victims to feel unheard and unprotected.

PIPES: A word of warning
As the weather turns colder, people who are staying in hotels or shelters should turn off their water before they leave. Several years ago we had an ice storm which saw loss of power to many areas. As a contractor I was asked to give a price to repair a home. The folks had gone to Hawaii for vacation and left the water on. When it got cold the pipes froze and then later when the power came back on the pipes thawed out and flooded the whole house. It would have been cheaper to build a new house than to repair the damage.

On behalf of the staff members of the Lakeland Joint School District, I’d like to say publicly, a heartfelt thank you to the crew members of our local utility companies. We recognize the countless hours you spent away from your families and your own homes, that may have needed your attention, to restore power to our communities. We appreciate the wonderful people in your offices who communicated frequently with us about the restoration schedules for our schools. We understand that many of our families are still without power, but with the majority of our schools open, we can provide a warm place for our students to be and two warm meals for them to eat. This wouldn’t have happened so quickly without the valiant efforts of utility crews. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do!

CLIMATE: What to accept, reject
To quote Anne Nesse (Press Nov. 18) “The world’s temperature is increasing, CO2 levels are increasing, deserts are expanding and shortages of fresh water are occurring. All of these effects are related to human’s impact on the Earth.” In talking about “climate change” or “global warming” I think it is important to distinguish between what is normal and natural weather and what is man caused “anthropogenic.” For thousands of years the climate of the Earth has changed. And, the Earth has warmed, but not over the past 18 years. She says that more than 300 scientists were perfectly united in the above. Now I doubt all 300 were climate scientists, since Anne is obviously not.

CLIMATE: Geer got it right
A letter published in the Coeur d’Alene Press on Friday, Nov. 13 written by Geddie Fredy failed to represent correctly the facts about the Northwest Climate Conference held here at The Coeur d’Alene Resort a few weeks ago. It is important to correct the written record. In difference to what Mr. Freddie states, Mr. Geer’s speech actually did state that the warming trends we are now seeing in our area are man caused. I personally attended all three days of the climate conference. I took extensive and accurate notes, and spoke with Mr. Geer, a noted biologist, following his speech.
GUNS: Protection God-given right
Re: My Turn — “One Way To Avoid Gun Control” — Mr. Harlocker, we already have THE way to avoid gun control, the Second Amendment. The writers were smart enough to see that people like you and Maloney would demand huge bribes to government to be “allowed” to protect one’s self and protected us from people like you two. My right to protect myself comes from my Creator and I will pay no insurance premium for that, much less $25,000. Once established, there’s NO limit to what some politicians think “reasonable.” Today 10K, tomorrow — why not $1 million or ?
GUNS: Tongue-in- cheek agreement
I have to give my complete support to Reid Harlocker’s opinion in Friday’s “My Turn.”
SCHOOLS: Don't let them teach civics
Regarding the Editorial in Sunday’s paper about voter apathy: How about leaving that responsibility to the home, or parents, or friends. Giving more authority to the schools is just giving them more influence into the voting bias of the teacher. Our institutions of learning are already exercising their personal ideas on our young. It’s no secret that the colleges and universities are liberal think tanks. To make them the authority on voting habits is just more power in their direction. Maybe there’s another suggestion? I reject this one!
REFUGEES: Stance by Otter inhumane
In response to Governor Otter’s call to halt the U.S. refugee resettlement program, I have this response. I grew up in Coeur d’Alene, an area notorious to outsiders for its white supremacy ties. It was not until I reached college that the nearby Aryan Nations compound was finally bankrupted and forced to move out of state. All my life I have had to explain that this small group of extremists does not represent the ideals of myself, my family or our community.
COPS: Can't ignore the bad news
In response to Mike Reno’s comments about how lucky he is to wear blinders and not see the whole picture about police abuse and sexual misconduct, just look at page 6 of the Coeur d’Alene Press last Friday — about the three Spokane police put on leave for sex assault. All the things he thought to be astounding are fine, like saving dogs and checking a pawn shop for tools. There is NO quarter given for police predators and yes, nationwide they are getting prison. Read the statistics, nationwide!

Scout and Scarlett
“How much poop can two dogs make?” I say out loud filling the second bucket of brown goo from my two Labrador retriever puppies. Each shovel of digested food makes me wonder why my wife and I decide on two large dogs instead of small lap-puppies. As I fill the second bucket of doggie-doo on this blustery autumn afternoon, my mind fades to Shih Tzus and pomeranians with their dainty little toots which might take minutes to retrieve.
Edible? Yes. Incredible? That's up to you.
If you want to know trends at the grocery store just ask a cashier. While many different items come through the checkout line, there is an old trend that is new again and in almost everyone’s basket. Here is your hint: they come by the dozen and shoppers are very particular about how they’re bagged. Yes, we’re talking about eggs!

Healthy aging
It is possible to reverse and or slow down the aging process. Chronological aging has an effect on the endocrine system, hormone levels decline with age. While bio-identical hormone therapy can restore these hormone levels to more youthful levels, exercise and proper nutrition also have a positive influence on hormone levels. Hormone therapy will be much more effective with exercise and proper nutrition.

Six things to drink this year at Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is flat-out our favorite holiday for wine and food pairing. Here is our short list of candidates to bring home for our Thanksgiving Day!

Debating Hillary's accusers like wrestling giant jellyfish
Jon Keith’s My Turn published on November 12th reminded me of something L. Sprague de Camp wrote, “Arguing with them is rather like wrestling with the giant jellyfish Cyanea: the substance is too soft and slippery to grasp, and there is not even a brain to stun.” Let’s see about Mr. Keith’s substance. He doesn’t cite one source. He does, however, ask a number of questions; all with easy answers that could be checked by anyone with a computer. Surely, a student of American history and geopolitics would know how to do basic research.

To Ms. Welch: Normally, I loathe the term “homophobic.” It is used indiscriminately whenever a straight person expresses disagreement with another’s perspective on sexuality. Such a label is inaccurate and inflammatory. But in this case, I rather think it applies. Your remarks, Ms. Welch, smack of bias, fear and ignorance.

Those who follow the news out of North Idaho and Eastern Washington have likely heard of the arrest and criminal charges against Mr. Kevin G. Such acts against children, if proven to be true, are heinous in nature and Mr. Sloniker should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Diocese of Boise and the Catholic Church as a whole offers its prayers and support for such victims.

LETTER: Based on misconception
Dear Mr. Ambrosetti; In your letter published Nov. 8, your premise (or, you make a point) that “homosexual abuse” is what occurred with respect to the individual who was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing multiple victims. Being homosexual and behaving as a sexual deviant are distinctly different. Unfortunately, it appears you do not know the difference as represented in your LTE. What occurred with your (former) church member is clearly, and exclusively, an act of sexual predation and is NOT what a homosexual man would consider. Is homosexuality normal? In my humble opinion, it is. Your misrepresentation of GLBTQ human beings is an affront to anyone who understands and respects human sexuality and diversity.

In response to the editorial on Nov. 6, I find it ironic that we find it notable when a conservative or positive religious person uses the same tactics as the liberal margin holders. A few years ago, in the dead of winter with snow piled high, I did the unthinkable for a physical therapist: I slipped on the ice and landed on my left elbow and wrist. As I was squirming around on the ground in my skirt and boots, trying to get out from under the car I had slid under, all I could think of was what I might have hurt. The pain dashed about between my elbow and my wrist. Honestly, I couldn't tell which was worst, it just all hurt, but I knew by the type of pain I had that I probably had broken something.

CONGRATS: To winner in PF
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Lynn Borders on his victory against me in the recent election for Post Falls City Council Seat No. 5. I wish Mr. Borders well.
CHURCH: The truth still matters
What do anti-Semitism and homosexual abuse of young boys have in common? Your guess is as good as mine, as Mr. Cole never tells us in his sad excuse for journalism on the front page of the Nov. 3 Press. After the strange headline, he presents a mish-mash of innuendo, allegation and good old-fashioned mud-slinging, with re-cycled filth from the often discredited SPLC.

CHURCH: Just the facts, please
The reporting of David Cole in “Long-haul trucker’s church allegedly has anti-Semitic ties,” (Coeur d’Alene Press, Nov. 3) is puzzling and enlightening. “Puzzling” because of the non-sequitur and “Enlightening” because it exposes an obvious bias for sensationalism over facts.
James M. 'Brando' Brand, 69
Our beloved husband, father, brother and friend Jim passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, while taking his usual morning nap. He had graciously fed the horses and done the chores before he crossed the Great Divide to ride for his Savior’s brand.

Idaho Fish and Game sees success managing Lake Pend Oreille fishery
Idaho’s biggest lake presented Idaho Fish and Game with one of its biggest fisheries challenges. How do you manage diverse fish populations in a lake that covers 134 square miles? How do you target a certain fish species in a lake so deep it is used to test submarines? How do you eliminate a bunch of big fish and replace them with small ones, and make anglers happy about it? Add to the mix an endangered species, a tiny crustacean and a world-class fishery at stake, and you have a management challenge akin to tight-rope walking on roller skates.
North Idaho has many 'microclimates'
I’ve recently received a few emails asking about the different types of climates here in North Idaho. Our region is well-known for its many lakes, mountains and valleys and has a variety of different “microclimates” within a relatively small area.
COLUMN: Got the wrong Catholics
I read the Guest Opinion article Wednesday by David Clohessy and would like to point out that Roman Catholic Bishops Peter Christensen and Thomas Daly have NOTHING to do with Kevin Sloniker. That parish has nothing to do with the Diocese of Boise (Idaho) or the Diocese of Spokane or the Vatican.

One does not generally expect a great deal of theological depth or accuracy in a newspaper that promotes the Wicca religion (Coeur d’Alene Press, Dec. 20, 2011), but your Nov. 3 front-page story on the Society of St. Pius X was appalling even by pagan standards. For one thing, the repeating of the anti-Semitic slur against the SSPX had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that child abuser Kevin Stoniker was once worked as a camp counselor for the Society. As an illustration, imagine if the story read:

ID: Military should be fine
I am writing this letter on behalf of my mother, Anna McManus. She immigrated to this country in 1960, where she met my father, Lt. Col. Ronald T. TRUMP: Fatal to GOP hopes
Does the Republican Party really believe it can win the presidency of the United States with Donald Trump as its candidate? The man is crass, boisterous, infatuated with himself and has absolutely no decency when speaking of others. Four months of the campaign have been lost while this person spews his vile attacks on other Republican contenders. His latest statement, “My father was rich but he only gave me a little, one million dollars, to get me started.” Really poor Donald! Is he the best candidate the Republicans have to offer? They need to make a reality check; i.e., do they want someone that trumpets all of their agenda but will lose the race to the White House or will they settle for a contender who supports most of their agenda and has the possibility of winning the race?

FIELDSTONE: An apartment disaster
In an undated letter to the Fieldstone homeowners, Viking Homes says apartment complexes complement the single family homes that surround them. If Viking is so proud of the apartment complexes it has built and how they “complement” (whatever that means) the developments, why wouldn’t they have made that feature a salient point in their brochures and advertisements when promoting Fieldstone? The answer is simple and Viking knows it. If you would have told prospective buyers that there would be 35-40-foot high three-story apartments in close proximity to their future homes, buyers would have walked away and those lots with a view of three-story apartments instead of the beautiful surroundings would still be for sale.
TRUMP: Singing a different tune
Since Donald Trump continues to appeal to the emotions, anger and frustrations of the populous now is the time to lay out a few facts. It is not important to go into the family history at this time. We cannot fault him for growing up in a posh household and eventually inheriting a fortune from his father’s estate. What we want to know are his positions in the past, and has he changed completely now.

Men, how are you feeling? Are you struggling with the lack of drive you once had? Testosterone performs many roles, some of which are protecting the cardiovascular system by widening the lumen of the coronary arteries, increasing blood supply to the heart, reduces serum cholesterol and minimizes atherosclerosis, reduces high blood pressure by vasodilatation, increases fibrinolytic activity of the blood giving the capacity to oppose blood clot formation and dissolve blood clots.

I want to take this time to thank the men and women of uniform — the military, police officers, paramedics, fire fighters, first responders at disaster sites, and all that risk their lives for our benefit. I have never served in any similar capacity. I don’t know what it feels like to watch a building or a car blow up via bomb or fire, or to hear the screams of those who succumb. I don’t know what it feels like to have adrenaline running intensely for hours or days on end as the enemy is or may be close by. I don’t know what it feels like to see someone shot or die violently. And I don’t know what it is like to see my home in shambles because of a tornado, a storm or a devastating earthquake. I am grateful that that is not my lot. I am grateful that there are those who are willing to sacrifice the comforts we so take for granted so that my freedom and my life is preserved.

SCHOOL: Praise Officer Petersen
Two weeks ago during a visit to Lake City High School, I ran into my longtime friend, classmate, and now LCHS School Resource Officer Nate Petersen. After exchanging the kind of hug that only former offensive linemen who haven’t seen each other for a long time can exchange, he told me to follow him so that he could show me his office. When Officer Petersen opened his office door, I saw that he had decorated his office with T-shirts, photos and other memorabilia from his time as a student at Lake City. Tears came to my eyes as Officer Petersen described how important it had become to him to work with students who we often deem “at risk.” Officer Petersen described some of the proactive interventions he has already put into place, the way in which he was working to eliminate the negative way in which many people view the police, and how he hopes to soon begin incorporating a restorative justice model at Lake City.

RENEWAL: Power to the people
Taxation without representation: Isn’t that against the law? Didn’t we fight a revolution against it? Haven’t thousands of good men and women died to protect us against it? So why is the Coeur d’Alene urban renewal agency doing it?
Shawn Bruntmyer, 43
Shawn Allen Bruntmyer lived a full, vivacious 43 years of life. He was blessed with a strong ability to make people laugh about almost anything. Putting a person’s life into 600 words or less is nearly impossible. But if I had to summarize it shortly, it would read “He lived.” Really lived, to an extent some people only wish they could. Born on Dec. 29, 1971, to Ronnie Allen Bruntmyer and Charliene Lou Pope in Denver, Colo.
WILDERNESS: Beware that designation
A reality check is needed for the proposed Scotchman Wilderness. We are constantly told it must be protected, yet we are not told from what. The only real threat is the dramatic increase of hikers to the area, since the publicity began. In the past, you might see someone else on the trail, while now there have been as many as 45 people on the peak at one time. As a result, the peak has become a goat petting zoo and the trail to the namesake peak, closed.
Jane W. Velicka, 74
Jane Velicka has ended her fight with cancer. Jane lived in Rathdrum, Idaho, since 2000. She traveled many times to beloved Texas to see her children that remained there. The years and miles may have separated her children but she was loved by each and everyone.
FIELDSTONE: On way to ruin
I live in the Fieldstone development in Post Falls. It is a pretty little neighborhood which Hallmark Homes and Viking Homes created. Now, with the help of Viking Homes, this little piece of heaven is going to turn into something else. Viking Homes is rushing to build a 208 three-story apartment complex right at the entrance of Fieldstone. Drive by the corner of Poleline and Syringa and see for yourself. Then, would you think, I sure am glad I didn’t buy there.
BOEHNER: Departure a call for unity
The power of the purse was given to the Legislature to also help curb the power of a rogue administration and was used in the past to get fair-minded laws passed and bargain against possible vetoes. What we have today with Boehner and McConnell is the cowardly attitude of making deals behind closed doors to pacify this administration without the input of all the Legislature including the Freedom Caucus.

Really enjoyed the downhill skateboarding piece on Sunday.
State high school football playoffs continue
The state high school volleyball tournaments and state cross country meets wrapped up last weekend, but there’s still some area athletes in fall sports mode.
