SALUTE: Tribute to Superman

It was 1968
Not the Summer of Love
but close enough
The Beatles filled the air
As we cruised down Sherman Avenue
Life was good and filled with
High School stuff
Girls, sports, and the promise of summer
My brother was in Vietnam
Thousands of miles away
Sleeping in hot steamy jungles
Just trying to live
To see the next day
I wasn’t too worried
Hell, he was Superman
I knew he’d come home
He did.
And we buried him.
I have missed him for almost 50 years
My tears have never dried
He was Superman
He is and always will be
He was 19.
(To all of those who have served and continue to serve — I remember. I always will. Thank you. Peace.)
