GUNS: Protection God-given right
Re: My Turn — “One Way To Avoid Gun Control” — Mr. Harlocker, we already have THE way to avoid gun control, the Second Amendment. The writers were smart enough to see that people like you and Maloney would demand huge bribes to government to be “allowed” to protect one’s self and protected us from people like you two. My right to protect myself comes from my Creator and I will pay no insurance premium for that, much less $25,000. Once established, there’s NO limit to what some politicians think “reasonable.” Today 10K, tomorrow — why not $1 million or ?
What about poor people, students or seniors who can’t afford any such premium? Are they pretty much out of luck or are their lives just not worth protecting because they can’t be “responsible?” Or should politicians make “O-gun-acare” for them to “fix” the problem that they would create? Lunacy?
As far as “no logic” in arming every man, you belie your sense of being responsible. My safety is MY responsibility, NOT government’s, not police’s, not yours. I would assert that you are being irresponsible in not being protected at all times. “Lunatics” don’t give warnings or wait for you to call 911, or “hope” someone else does. Just go ask the Chattanooga recruiters, the students of Umpqua, or the people in Paris. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.
That’s fact and logic, sir. Fine, leave your “responsibly owned” gun at home. But don’t you dare demand I do likewise.
