VOTE: You'll elect a Caesar
The presidential Election Day is almost here. Looking at both candidates, I was having a hard judgment call. With Mitt Romney, I disagree with a lot of his issues and the fact that he is of the Mormon religion; of which he has a right to choose. Looking to President Obama, I am not sure if he has a religion. In our great country it is his right to not have one. I strongly oppose many of his issues, especially his vast spending of our tax dollars.
FAIRGROUNDS: Resist attack
Our Kootenai County Fairgrounds is yet again under attack from the current board of County Commissioners. It seems to be a repetitive theme every time the board changes or the county needs to expand the bureaucracy.
ASSESSED: Proposition needed
I couldn’t agree more with Sharyn Flanagan’s letter regarding our property taxes going up.
LAKELAND: Keep support strong
I am writing to express my strong support for the upcoming Lakeland Joint School District Replacement Instructional/Extra-Curricular 2-Year Levy. As a parent of two children in the district, I have had the opportunity to watch the growth and expansion of our schools. We have directly benefited from full-day kindergarten, hiring of new staff to ensure appropriate classroom ratios, participation in extra-curricular activities and the Advanced Learning Program (ALP). This levy will ensure that these programs/initiatives along with many others will continue.
WARMING: You should give thanks
Rather than working ourselves into a tizzy because we perceive a disaster will come our way in 10 or 12 years unless we spend billions or trillions on renewable energy, we ought to be thankful over each 10th of a degree of warming that happens.
FASCISM: The strong indications
A recent reader listed 14 indicators of fascism, and intimated that the past four years had some of those indications.
CDA SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes
Please vote in favor on May 16 for the educational levy. Taxpayers will see an average increase of only $6 per month on our property taxes. This is a wise investment in our city’s children.
Please join us in honoring our veterans
As we approach Veterans Day, we at the Coeur d'Alene Press and Shoshone News-Press are preparing a special feature to honor the veterans of Kootenai and Shoshone counties.
COMMISSIONERS: Reinstate Pledge of Allegiance
I have attended many public hearings in Kootenai County over the last 15 years or so, as my wife and I stay involved in land use issues pertinent to the health and future of our beautiful community.
POST FALLS SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes
State funding doesn’t provide the funds needed to create high-quality education for our students.
LIBRARY: Voters, consider safety
Interesting to read that censoring anything at all as a library trustee might disqualify a person from consideration, yet one of the candidates for the position openly, and rightly, states that making the libraries “safe” is a primary concern.
WAKES: Educate and enforce
I am against the proposed ordinance to ban all wake boating and towed water sports on the Spokane River.
GROWTH: Preservation in planning
Given the expansive growth in North Idaho, it would be responsible of our city planners to stop and carefully plan for the coming years.
MILITARY SPENDING: Accounting needed in Ukraine
Do you support the U.S. helping Ukraine?
WAKESURF: Responsible stewards
Recent commentary from the group “River Friends” published in the Coeur d’Alene Press offers a misleading and incomplete assessment of responsible wakesurfing on the Spokane River.
CONSTITUTION: Assault confusion
I just read Mike Crapo’s half-page ad in the Coeur d’Alene Press asserting that “Our Constitution is under assault-we’re in a battle with Biden/Shumer/Pelosi.”
SCHOOLS: Elect effective leaders
I’ve been a teacher in the Coeur d’Alene District for 21 years as an elementary school teacher with various teaching positions.
GINORIO: Column missed the mark
In Mr. Ginorio’s Oct. 15 Op/Ed he attempted to circle the wagons around the term “Traditional American.”
Transcript: Pat Chun delivers update on state of Washington State athletics as school deals with coronavirus
One week removed from the NCAA’s decision to cancel its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, spring sports and indefinitely suspend other organized team activities, Washington State Athletics Director Pat Chun spoke with reporters on a Friday afternoon conference call to discuss how the changes have impacted student-athletes in Pullman, as well as the financial impact and what the cancellations mean for upcoming events such as spring football camp or the Pro Day that was scheduled for April 1.
MEMORIAL: Time to remember
Our past is written in stone, granite, wood.
