GROWTH: Preservation in planning

| June 18, 2021 1:00 AM

Given the expansive growth in North Idaho, it would be responsible of our city planners to stop and carefully plan for the coming years. Roadways need to be evaluated, green spaces need to be curtailed and drought resistant plants need to be planted.

All households need to have shower and faucet saving devices. Grey water recycling should be used for irrigation. We also need to stop maintaining green lawns with both their consumption of clean water and consumption of fossil fuels.

We need to think of our future and our kids futures. We need to respect our aquifer by using it conservatively and being careful of what activities above it contribute to its declining quality.

Lake Coeur d’Alene needs help now; the erosion that occurs during the summer months is alarming. We need to not allow wake boarding, we need to limit the horsepower of the boats on the lake that cause this erosion.

I have watched the shoreline tree roots become uncovered and exposed as we lose soil. The water used to be crystal clear when one sat on our many beaches but now we have cloudy water about 6 feet out from shore because of the multiple wakes from boats.

These beautiful resources we are fortunate to have must be protected if we are to maintain the high quality of life we now have.
