NIC athletics conference change unlikely

North Idaho College won’t change athletics conferences any time soon — and recent efforts to do so reportedly jeopardized NIC’s relationship with the Northwest Athletic Conference.

The State Board of Education ended Branden Durst’s quest to become the certified superintendent of West Bonner, declining to consider his application for an emergency provisional administrator’s certificate.

Judge rejects NIC subpoenas

Also declines attorney's motion to withdraw

A judge declined to hear an attorney's motion to request to withdraw from representing North Idaho College in a lawsuit filed against the college by President Nick Swayne. The judge also quashed subpoenas issued to two former trustees and the college’s former legal counsel. Boise-based attorney Bret Walther, who was assigned to the case by NIC’s insurance carrier, filed the motion to withdraw Monday afternoon, citing “irreconcilable breakdown of the attorney-client relationship.”

Community reacts to North Idaho College turmoil

Community members on and off the North Idaho College campus are responding to two fiery meetings of the board of trustees this week. A divided board voted Thursday to place President Nick Swayne on administrative leave and invite former wrestling coach and interim president Michael Sebaaly to replace him.
