EDITORIAL: Step up now to save your college

| February 5, 2023 1:00 AM

Your letters to the editor supporting NIC are appreciated.

Students, faculty and staff — the folks who have issued votes of no confidence in the three trustees who are hurtling North Idaho College toward oblivion — are emboldened by your courageous statements.

But it’s not enough.

The three trustees, Chairman Greg McKenzie, Todd Banducci and Mike Waggoner, are spending your money, not theirs, to bring NIC to its knees. They have access to millions of your dollars, and with their simple 3-2 majority over conscientious trustees Brad Corkill and Tarie Zimmerman, there has been no way to curb their lust to empty the bank account.

That has to change. And you can help change it.

Some of our community’s most revered, longtime, dedicated citizens are stepping out of the bleachers and onto the playing field. They’re joining attorney Mike Gridley and others in attempting to pluck the three-trustee kamikaze out of the air.

Gridley et al are suing Waggoner, Banducci and McKenzie for malfeasance, fraud, breach of fiduciary responsibility. If it were legally actionable, nasty buffoonery might be part of the suit.

NIC supporters — that’s you, regional employers; you, NIC alums; and you, who are unwilling to let the wave of extremism wipe out one of our area’s most vital institutions — can help pursue every inch of legal recourse to stop the three trustees in their tracks.

So keep those letters to the editor coming, folks. But if you care at all for North Idaho College and the tremendous good it does for our community, please, donate now at SaveNIC.org.

And if you just want to kick extremism in the shin? Your contribution will do that, too.
