OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
DINNER: Lincoln Day alarmists
After reading this letter in its entirety, what I find most disturbing is the blatant fearmongering language used to elicit unnecessary fear amongst the attendees. Language like “significant nationwide violence,” “…
BOND: Reasons for support
I am writing in support of the $35.5 million bond to be voted on in March. It is critical for the community to understand this bond does not cost most taxpayers any more money than they’re paying now. Our schools e…
SCOUTS: It's only science
In response to M. Dornquast of Post Falls… “Keep Stupidity Out?”
PROMOTION: Price too high
Mr. Novak, $3.99 for 16 pages seems a little steep. You might consider dialing back your pricing a little bit. If your pamphlet wasn’t 25 cents a page, you might not have to plug it in the “Readers Write” section. …
CATS: What about abortion?
Anyone who would treat a cat as you have detailed has an obvious psychologic problem. Reminds me of the kid I grew up with who enjoyed tying two cat tails together and putting them over a clothline. Yet, he got ove…
CAT: Cover the cost
I would ask all readers who were horrified by this awful act to step forward and help out on something they might not have thought of. This was an awful act and I hope the person is caught. But I am asking all to p…
POLITICS: Shades of McCarthy
In 1968, Eugene McCarthy, Democrat Senator from Minnesota, ran for president. He ran so strongly in the primaries that he was credited for convincing Lyndon Johnson not to run again for another term.

CAT: Need stronger laws

BIAS: Don't trust fact-checks
In Sunday’s issue of the Coeur d’Alene Press, the editor seemingly is discounting a letter written by Maureen Paterson questioning climate change data. The Press used FactCheck.org to support their position and ref…
CRIME: Rehab does work
More than 200 current and former police chiefs, federal and state chief prosecutors, and attorneys general from all 50 states, believe crime and incarceration can be reduced through effective rehabilitation program…
SCHOOLS: Seniors, say yes
The letters column has been sizzling over the past few weeks because of the additional school levy and bond issues. I am retired and obviously do not have a direct involvement with the school district. Even so, the…
LIBERALS: When snowflakes melt
I had to laugh as I read Shawn Keenan’s rather angry letter in defense of her “liberalism.” I think her letter is rather revealing. Shawn rants in all caps about how she believes in human rights, how she’s “tough a…
