DINNER: Lincoln Day alarmists

| February 24, 2017 12:00 AM

After reading this letter in its entirety, what I find most disturbing is the blatant fearmongering language used to elicit unnecessary fear amongst the attendees. Language like “significant nationwide violence,” “bullies and miscreants,” and “uniformed Post Falls police”… like really? Please show me this “significant violence” that is taking place. Certainly this is not happening locally and have not seen any violent demonstrations nationally either. Altreality much?

This feels like it is straight out of the altright playbook. The same emotional response Infowars, Breitbart and Fox News hopes to induce. If you notice, this fearmongering is trending with our POTUS and has been for quite some time. Now our local GOP is buying in and perpetuating the demonization of any dissenting voices, peaceful or not. Sounds like they missed the memo from the prez about unification and instead seem comfortable casting disparaging images of peaceful local objectors furthering the deep political divide that is tormenting this country.

While they have every right to gather peacefully and privately to discuss their political strategies, it does not appear that the tone is one of solidarity, but rather animosity.
