SCHOOLS: Seniors, say yes
The letters column has been sizzling over the past few weeks because of the additional school levy and bond issues. I am retired and obviously do not have a direct involvement with the school district. Even so, there are very good reasons why even us seniors should support these funding measures.
Educational benefits reach into the community far beyond just the students and their parents. Every one of us benefits from having an educated populace. The service industry, construction, retail and health care all need trained workers. Without them, we would start to look like an inner city or Appalachian town in West Virginia. Statistics clearly show that as education increases, salaries do likewise.
Past editorials in The Press have rightly lamented that Idaho is behind in educational funding. Before we slam the door on these financial issues, let’s all think how they will, even indirectly, benefit us.
