RATHDRUM - While host Lakeland ran away with the 4A Region 1 team title, it was an all too different story to decide the 5A Region 1 and 3A District 1 champions, with both being decided by only a few points during the state-qualifying meets on Saturday.

A decorated world cultures and U.S. history teacher is inviting young globetrotters to come along on adventures abroad. Tanya Lilley, who was named the 2023 Idaho Outstanding Teacher of American History by the Idaho State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is gearing up for trips to Japan, England and Greece in the next couple years. The deadline to register for the Japan excursion is coming up at the end of November.

COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene senior Kinsey Gomez, who won the 1,600 meters, 3,200 and was on the winning sprint medley team, was named girls track athlete of the meet, and David Norris, who won the 800 and 1,600, was named boys co-track athlete of the meet, leading their Viking squads to wins in the Rasmussen Invitational on Saturday at Coeur d'Alene High.

“Tonight was an intense defensive battle,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Craig Daigle said. “Bonners Ferry came out aggressive and went up quickly. We did a good job of staying with our game plan and was able to tie it up at the half. Bonners Ferry came out in the second half connecting passes and getting into our third. I think we were able to counter attack and won numerous corners. (Charter’s) Treffen McCord’s corners were fantastic today and helped lead to the second goal.”
