COEUR d’ALENE — Chloe Teets’ penalty kick in the 74th minute broke a tie and lifted the Lake City Timberwolves to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs in nonleague play Friday afternoon at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Madi Lasher drew the foul for Lake Cit (3-0), taking a pass from Maddy Smith and getting fouled by a Sandpoint defender just inside the box.

“It was a very good game; Sandpoint will be one of the best teams that we play (all) season. They were a handful today,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “I expect them to go deep in the 4A tournament this year.”

Jordie Breeden scored early in the second half to put Sandpoint (2-1) on the board first. Teets assisted on Lily Tweedy’s tying goal midway through the half.

“I loved the way they responded; they gave up a goal right at start at half, and they kept battling,” said Ruchti, who also praised the defense of sophomore center midfielder Breanna Widener on Sandpoint’s Riley Walkington, an Eastern Washington commit.

Lake City travels to Gonzaga Prep on Tuesday.
