LAPWAI — The host Lapwai Wildcats made 9 of 11 from the 3-point line in the first quarter to beat the St. Maries Lumberjacks 86-56 in a nonleague game at Lapwai High on Tuesday.

“We just couldn’t recover after giving them some open looks,” said St. Maries coach Bryan Chase, whose team trailed 30-12 after the first quarter. “I thought we had a good defensive gameplan and did a good job of playing with them in the final three quarters. But when you get into a hole like that, it’s tough to dig out of.”

Kase Wynott scored 28 points, Titus Yearout 17 points for Lapwai (20-0), which made 16 3-pointers on the night.

RATHDRUM — The Hawks celebrated senior night with a big win over their fellow 4A Inland Empire League foe Bears.

“I thought we wrestled well; our seniors did a good job,” Lakeland coach Zach Horsley said. “Lucas Williams, Payden Wysong and Devon Suko were solid. We bumped Devon up to 182 so he could get a match on senior night, and he came through with a pin. Wysong teched a returning state placer, so that was a pleasant surprise."
