Mistruths running rampant; find out for yourself.

PRAYER: There is no downside

Public prayer does two things. First, realizations are renewed that we are on Earth only a short time. What we do for good needs guidance and wisdom which, in our finite selves, we may not have. Secondly, in prayer we are reminded that our forefathers prayed for understanding in establishing our nation and they verbalized awareness of answered prayers.

MEMORIAL DAY: They gave their lives for our freedom

As we are about to celebrate Memorial Day, for those who have never served in the military and have no clue what it took in World War I and World War II to secure our freedom.

Chief White: We're all in this together

On May 5, 2015, Sgt. Greg Moore was killed in the line of duty. Next week, his name will be added to the more than 20,000 names on the wall at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. Each of the fallen officers, and those who continue to serve in uniform, represent the honor and traditions that are the backbone of the American public safety professional. Those principles are sustained today by the ethics, professionalism, bravery, and sacrifice of our officers.

Campaign fails to reflect Cd'A schools

We join the Idaho School Boards Association (ISBA) and a number of school boards and superintendents across the state who are concerned about the Albertson’s Foundation’s Don’t Fail Idaho campaign. At the Coeur d’Alene School Board’s March meeting, we openly discussed this campaign’s limited and inaccurate depiction of the readiness of Idaho high school students to go on to college.

LITTLE: We can do better

I know more about Washington County than I do Washington, D.C. Incredible natural assets, world-class recreation, rich history and hard-working people are some of the reasons Idaho is the fastest-growing state, with increasing job opportunities and rising wages.

Our winter schedule

Now that the holidays have concluded it’s time to look forward to our winter (and even a bit of our spring) schedule for winemaker dinners and shop tastings. For those of you who have attended our dinners with our wonderful partners at Fleur de Sel in Post Falls, you know what a treat they are. For those who have not yet had the chance to join us, now is your chance! Remember to sign up early as the dinner will typically sell out within 48 hours of when the invite goes out to our mailing list.

Conceived in liberty and still free

July 4, 1776 to July 4, 2011 adds up to 235 years since, in the words of President Lincoln, "our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

Nearing a crisis: Teacher shortage

As a former CEO, I know that any organization is only as good as its people. I’ve managed companies as small as 50 employees and as large as 2,000 and the key to our success was always the talent and commitment of our teammates. Schools are no different. The quality of education our children receive is directly related to the talent and quality instruction of their teachers.

MY TURN: Our public schools

2023 will mark 20 years for me as a local public school educator. I have worked in various positions (classroom teacher, administrator) at three different schools and two different levels (middle, elementary). I am also a parent to two middle school-aged children who have attended local public schools since kindergarten.

NORRIS: A positive move

With the recent changes in our county, I am appreciative to have our new sheriff leading our county.

PRIORITIES: They don't add up

What do you suppose our government is up to? Our nation is deeply in debt and the government's solution: Spend more money, a lot more money. And raise our taxes.

SHERIFF: Something to consider

Our local sheriff wrote a letter to Gov. Little asking to open Kootenai sooner than the governor’s plan due to the small amount of cases of coronavirus in our county. Yes, we are blessed as to our small count. However, opening our county earlier than the rest of Idaho will be a welcome mat for not only our friends from Washington but other parts of Idaho.

LABRADOR: He's vital to our nation

I'm urgently exhorting my fellow Idahoans to vote true conservative, Raul Labrador, to the U.S. House of Representatives. Never before in our country's history has our freedom been under such great siege! Our very liberty and way of life are at stake!

REFUGEES: Cost too high

In response to the letter from Mr. Mallory, I wholeheartedly agree with him. Our elected officials are wrong to place the cost of refugees onto the citizens of the United States. Boise’s mayor did just that; those refugees have been given residence in our state, which in fact we will pay for both with the cost of their care and possible lives that may be taken. These refugees are not adequately screened. No one can honestly say these people will or will not cause harm to our citizens. It is NOT a decision for a mayor or any other elected office holder to make for the citizens of their state. These are not issues far fetched from happening as they are happening already.
