OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
SIGNS: Tell a lot about candidates
As I drive around town, seeing the political litter, I can’t help but think that one can tell how good of a public servant a losing candidate would have been by how quickly he/she removes their campaign signs.
IMPACT FEES: Just make them pay
Wow. Once again our wimpy commissioners are trying to decide if the cost of services needed to handle growth in new building and development should be borne by taxpayers or the people making money.
VETERANS: At last, a warm welcome
Summer 1970 I arrived back in the United States from Vietnam at the San Francisco International Airport. What confronted me was not what you see today on the news but rather groups of hippies confronting us, scream…
CRITICISM: Put it in writing
On election night, the Coeur d’Alene City Council met and during audience comment time (and noting that he would rather be watching the returns via television), a taxpayer commented on his view in purchasing Person…
FUTURE: Ideas to live, vote by
Legislative District 2, like much of Idaho, has voted Republican for a very long time. This has led to a state agenda that has moved away from policy based on a spirit of compromise. But in my experience canvassing…
ELECTION: Who to blame? The voters
What happened on election day was explained 80 years ago. Harry Hopkins, Franklin Roosevelt’s Chief of Staff, not realizing there was a reporter in the room, advised his boss, “Tax and tax, spend and spend, elect a…

CANCER: Wage war on this kind
Over the past 30 years there has been a revolution in science and medicine, resulting in increased survival rates for many diseases but, unfortunately, pancreatic cancer has not benefited from these advances becaus…
NIC: Trustee decries campaigns
Listening to political campaign rhetoric, reading The Press (including letters to the editor), and campaign fliers I have concluded that numerous people with political aspirations should be ashamed. It is a sad day…
OBAMA: Farewell to the best days
Let the good times roll!
POLICE: Ask tough questions
A gun is not the most dangerous weapon our local sheriffs carry. The U.S. Supreme Court has made a law that allows an officer to lie to you in order to get information from you. This happened to me Sunday night. My…
CATS: Happy ending to story
I want to thank the Coeur d’Alene Press for printing my letter to the editor a couple months ago about help with cats that had me overwhelmed. That very morning I got a call from a very nice lady. There is a small …
CLIFF: You could look it up
I am beginning to read more stories regarding the “fiscal cliff.” This is a major piece of legislation confronting the Congress that will have a direct effect on most all of the people.
GENDER: Riled over a ruling
I am shocked at the bias dictating the Kootenai County magistrate judges. A particular new judge professes to go by the law in all of his dealings. He is known to be a “stickler” for following law. Unfortunately, h…

Thank You Mr. Luna for trying to do what we should be doing.
