On March 26, 2018, Idaho Gov. Butch Otter signed into law HB 626, an innocuous-looking, yawn-inducing bit of legislation that requires ballot language outlining the cost of proposed school bond issues.

Moving History Forward: Recalling Black Sunday
The Wallace Idaho area is rich beyond its history of having the richest silver mines in the U.S., its history of union strikes, one of the U.S. worst mining disasters, its claiming that it is the “center of the universe” and its scofflaw climate which tolerated many of the human vices — bars, gambling and prostitution, to name a few.

Affordable health care
This has been quite a year when it comes to health care for all of us. With the presidential election days away and everyone trying to decide who is best for our country, this "little thing" called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or better known as Obamacare, keeps coming up for those of us in the midst of health care.

NONINI: Always keeps his word
As a trustee on the Post Falls School Board, I have been particularly interested in where the candidates stand on educational issues. Two fundraising events are taking place over the next few weeks at a coffee shop downtown. Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters is hosting their fourth annual fundraiser benefiting Better Together Animal Alliance (BTAA) at their Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint locations on Nov. 27 and 28.
TEACHERS: They give our students their very best
I am so concerned about our children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews as the schools get less and less in support and funding. I know that all of us are struggling but our children need good education and the teachers have such large class sizes it is hard for our children to get the attention they sometimes require. I also know some teachers buy a lot of supplies with their own funds because their are no funds but they care enough to give the kids their best. Let's get behind our educators and vote for the levies needed and volunteer out time as we are able. Our kids' future depends on it.

FIELDSTONE: On way to ruin
I live in the Fieldstone development in Post Falls. It is a pretty little neighborhood which Hallmark Homes and Viking Homes created. Now, with the help of Viking Homes, this little piece of heaven is going to turn into something else. Viking Homes is rushing to build a 208 three-story apartment complex right at the entrance of Fieldstone. Drive by the corner of Poleline and Syringa and see for yourself. Then, would you think, I sure am glad I didn’t buy there.
Today's ghastly groaner
Two drunks were in a bar partying like fools. They were drinking whiskey, buying rounds like there was no tomorrow. They were dancing, calling each other “professor,” and generally attracting a lot of attention.
PLASTICS: Disposal dilemma
To whom it may concern: I’ve seen too many programs on TV about plastics and the damage they are doing to our oceans and planet. The owner of CdA Garbage and Post Falls Sanitation has stated that too many people are throwing away plastics, which China will not purchase; the plastics are taking up too much room in the bundles or, they sell to China. This garbage company only wants to recycle the garbage that China will buy, which reduces the recycle amount to almost nothing!
