SOLID LEADERSHIP: Versus conspiracy theorists

KMPO’s board and leadership should be applauded for their efforts to aid in improving traffic flow in our county. For the past several years KMPO, alongside ITD, have led community discussions seeking to improve our traffic congestion problems. Congestion reduces public safety and causes significant negative economic consequences related to increased freight costs and human capital inefficiency.

SOCIAL UNREST: Tolerance needed

In light of all the racial divide in the world today, social unrest and lack of understanding in our communities of the vast differences we all have as to religion, social interaction and normal day to day activities dealing with so many folks of color, religious preference, age, and all that goes with a diverse society, it is no wonder that we have so many folks that are so prejudiced that they have no room in their life for tolerance.

Dems in sine die press conference: 'Session marked by tone-deafness and missed opportunities'

House and Senate Democrats held a sine die press conference late this afternoon, even though the House hasn't yet adjourned sine die. "I feel the session was marked by tone-deafness and missed opportunities," said House Minority Leader Ilana Rubel, D-Boise. "Our colleagues took a hard right turn into divisive social issues." Plus, she said, with the spreading coronavirus, "It was frankly embarrassing that the Legislature remained in session until today," and not to address pressing, "bread and butter" issues like property taxes, transportation and health care, "but rather to ban transgender athletes, ban affirmative action, and to pass a prospective abortion ban that contains no exception for the health of the mother."

Fear is a poor teacher

As an IB Social Studies teacher at LCHS and prior teacher of AP U.S. History, I have knowledge and familiarity with our district's high school advanced learning programs. Since the April School Board meeting, I have also had a young parent critic of IB visit my IB classes. From my conversations with this parent, the various My Turn essays, and from the Cd'A library presentation on Monday, I have gained a clearer understanding of the mindset and objections of the IB critics.
