PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Solutions suggested

Could there be any greater warnings than the status of our Kootenai County public schools? ‘Something is wrong with the System? (Sept. 26 in the Coeur d’Alene Press) Presently, a large percentage of our kids ‘graduate’ without needing to know how to ‘read?’ Most of our kids kids don’t need to know math, and they graduate from our local high schools? Now, virtually every student can graduate and nobody is held back? In spite of this, presently, about 20% of our youth are ‘driven’ to create futures and persevere through Advanced Placement classes and enter America’s universities. This can leave about 80% of our youth virtually unprepared for life.

CIVIL WAR: Rhetoric is dangerous

Memorial Day; a time to honor and remember our fallen veterans. They were our fathers, sons, husbands, brothers and in many cases, mothers, daughters sisters and wives. Families were broken, hundreds of thousands were wounded and live a life of pain and disability. Not something you would wish on a loved one.

REDMAN INSURANCE: RFP process, competition welcome

In response to the Sept. 15 editorial mentioning Redman Insurance, I want to clarify a couple things. First, we appreciate the suggestion from a trustee for the Community Library Network board proposing our insurance agency as an option to provide insurance for the Library, and we hope that the suggestion was because of our heart for serving our local community, our 30 years in business in Kootenai County, our products available for public entities, and the exceptional service our experienced team provides.

FALLACY and OPINION: Often the same thing

Two letters in The Press contained false statements I would like to emphasize. These are from the first letter: 1. Biden has devastated our economy. 2. Public schools are indoctrination camps. 3. Teaching our children to hate our country and freedoms. 4. Defunded our police. 5. Made cities battlegrounds. 6. Demolishing the Second Amendment on the agenda. 7. Ranked voting has ruined our society. There is no evidence for these statements. They are opinions.

IMMIGRANTS: Tell us how many are here

Give us the numbers. We have a major crisis at the Mexican border that doesn’t get the attention it should. Citizens should know what our government is spending and on what. After all, it’s our tax dollars that are paying for this avoidable mess.

MY TURN: Dereliction of Duty

Congress again avoided a government shutdown and kicked the can down the road for another 45 days, but much damage has been and continues to be done to our all-volunteer military by irresponsible members of Congress.
