SCHOOLS: Support our future
As an Idaho native, I’m proud to live in our beautiful community. I chose to raise my family here because of what our city has to offer. The most fundamental value in Coeur d’Alene is our public schools. We have strong, well maintained schools, which show our residents value the assets of our school district. The outside appearance and safety of our schools is important, but what happens inside is vital to our community and children’s success.
Open letter to the community about safety in our schools
As a parent, community member and your superintendent I spend much of my day and many nights worrying about threats to our children and our schools.

ADVERTISING: Advertorial — GEORGE BALLING: Our community
Last week we wrote about our approach to the wine business here in North Idaho and how we work to set our shop apart. In writing that column I realized that the most important part of our story here at the Dinner Party really has to do with the “community” that has developed around and within our shop and our wine club.

Cd'A schools: Leaders in Idaho
Too often we hear negative news about education issues nationally and statewide. Rarely do we hear the positive facts about how well Coeur d'Alene students are doing locally. Just as we expect performance standards for our classrooms, the same data can be used to measure a district's value for a community. When we are asked to make an investment in our children, I believe it is imperative we ask ourselves, "Are we providing the right support and how are we examining measurable success?" Let me share with you my view of the student achievement in Coeur d'Alene's public schools.
FREEMAN STRONG
The entire Freeman Family wants to thank the thousands of people and organizations from our community, our state and beyond for providing us with overwhelming support during our darkest hour. Your support has lifted us up and inspired us as we move along in our healing process. This tragedy has truly brought out the best in everyone — our students, our staff, our parents and our community — and we are so incredibly proud and grateful.
U.S.: We go back for our wounded
Our American military practices a unique, fundamental and inviolable rule on the field of battle: We go back for our wounded. Through the hail of bullets, at extreme peril to themselves, our soldiers, our countrymen, go back for their wounded, our wounded.
LEVY: Help the trend continue
Our community has a history of strong support for our children's education. Let's continue supporting our school district. Please join me in voting yes on March 8th. It is essential for our schools...our kids...our future!
LIBRARY: Friends, step forward
I am writing to let you know about the Community Library Foundation, a 501-(-3 organization. We have seven library buildings in our District — Athol, Harrison, Hayden, Pinehurst, Post Falls, Rathdrum and Spirit Lake, plus a bookmobile. The foundation raises funds to pay for projects in the different libraries. We think the libraries are an important part of our community for our adults and children.
LEVY: A burden worth bearing
I’m writing to encourage you to vote YES for our Coeur d’Alene School District Maintenance and Operations Levy on Tuesday. Our future generations’ education is vitally important to the success of our kids, our community and our country. What better reasons are there?
ADVERTISING: Advertorial — GEORGE BALLING: Our philosophy
When you venture into a wine shop pretty much anywhere, it is likely a bit daunting. Questions run through your mind. How is this place organized? Are all the white wines in one spot? What if I want something specifically from Spain? I wonder if they offer a discount for 6, or 12. Do they have a wine club?

RIGHTS: Seniors deserve them, too
I live in a 35-unit HUD complex for seniors. We moved into this building because it is a secured, locked building supposed to protect us from outside predators. Now we have one living among us. We recently were informed that a sex offender is one of our tenants and he assaulted one of the women living here in the complex. Our lease specifically says if a criminal act occurs it is cause for an immediate eviction. However our property management has refused to have this man removed from our building. We contacted a news medium from Spokane and they, after interviewing our manager and the suspect, refused to cover our story.
LEVY: In a word, it's vital
I urge our community to support the school levy for the Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls school districts on March 10. Our future as a community and state, is based upon our educational capacities and abilities. It is vital, that our students are allowed the opportunities that these important levies can provide. Economic vibrancy and vitality is dependent upon a skilled and trained population. Please vote to endorse this vital piece of our educational budget. We can choose excellence by our involvement and support of our students and those who teach and lead them.

We offer a variety of training techniques and group fitness classes. Our goal is to help promote a healthy life style for our families in our community.
HELP: Locals again answer call
I am once again reminded what a loving and giving community we live in. On Jan. 17, I contacted the Coeur d’Alene Press about the increasing number of cold and hungry people we are seeing at the St. Vincent de Paul HELP Center, in our shelters and our warming center. The CDA Press ran an article asking our community to help supply food for the men, women and children who are cold and hungry coming to our facilities. As the article stated, with the cold weather and lack of affordable housing our numbers have increased dramatically this winter for those in need.
LEVY: Don't let kids down
Next Tuesday, March 12, the people of Coeur d’Alene have a major opportunity to support the schools of our area and all of the bright young minds being taught at those schools. We are voting on a levy that will have a drastic impact on the youngest, most vulnerable portion of our population. They cannot vote yes for themselves, so it is our job to do it instead.
Discover us again...
Since we just finished unpacking all the boxes and putting the finishing touches on our brand new office, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to let you all know a little more about Spoelstra Family Chiropractic and our vision. This past weekend we moved from our first location in Hayden to our beautiful new office in Coeur d'Alene. Our new address is located at 370 E. Kathleen Ave., Suite 600. We're directly across the street from the fairgrounds between Government Way and Fourth Street.
PRAYER: Time of true inspiration
My husband and I attended the National Day of Prayer gathering on May 5 at the Coeur d'Alene City Hall and were encouraged by the leaders, the music and all those who came to pray for our nation. Fifteen pastors from our area gave prayers and scripture readings. The content included many areas of concern to all of us, not just the concerns of those who attended.
