Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
BLACK: Not what I wrote
Regarding the Readers Write letter by Esequiel Vasquez on my article published in the Press November 27-28. Perhaps Mr. Vasquez and I can agree on this idea: It is not so much the practice of religion that leads to…
U.S.: Reach out to distant neighbors
It is quite evident Uyless Black spent many hours studying the Muslim religion and the long-range effect it could have on our freedom of religion. I certainly will not brand him as xenophobe but a person of deep th…
PROPOSAL: More liberal shenanigans
The idea by Mr. Moran and his group to increase tobacco taxes isn’t new or innovative.
EAGLES: Common sense lacking
Hey, I have a great idea; let’s leave our brains at home and go to Wolf Lodge to look at the eagles! And, since we are brainless we can have all kinds of fun.
COUNTY: Yes to rental regulations
I fully support the county in proposing regulations for short-term vacation rentals.
ECONOMY: Why confidence wanes
Of course consumer confidence is low! It’s a 2 percent growth economy! What planet does Janie Hansen live on? Our young people either leave Idaho or work their $7.25 an hour jobs and share an apartment with three o…
ALBRIGHT: Historian reaches far
The Coeur d’Alene Press is the best local paper I have ever read. I read it from 2,000 miles away. Syd Albright is the finest history teacher there is. He is one of the gems of the Gem State.
PASTOR: Try a little love

LANDS: State control a bad idea
I’ve lived in Idaho for all of my 82 years. You would think there would be little that could surprise me. However, the fact that some legislators think the state can afford to take over and manage all of Idaho’s pu…
BIKINIS: I won't drink to that
Thanksgiving day as we were delivering dinners for those that were unable to go out or had no meal, my wife and I stopped for a hot latte through a local espresso stand. I won’t mention the name or location as it's…
REFUGEES: Obama's plan falls short
I have heard and read comments that potential refugees from the Middle East don’t share our language, religion and values (based on our Constitution). So what?
TICKET: Thanks for nothing, Cd'A
On Nov. 22, a Sunday, I came to downtown Coeur d’Alene to attend a baby shower and have lunch. What a surprise I had when I came back to my car two hours later and found a $20 parking ticket for parking in a bank p…
