COUNTY: Yes to rental regulations

| December 4, 2015 8:00 PM

I fully support the county in proposing regulations for short-term vacation rentals.

I live in the Kidd Island Bay area where there are several Vacation Rental By Owner properties (VRBOs). I have the misfortune of sharing a driveway with one of these properties. Traffic and parking is a part of the problem.

These high dollar rentals attract large groups of people to share the costs. The lack of respect for the quiet neighborhood is unbelievable. I’ve had kids who feel free to walk into my house as they explore the area.

I’ve complained to the home owner who tells me he has strict limitations written into his rental agreement. However, renters are not honest about their intentions. There have been weddings, wedding receptions, large family reunions. Often times there are 30-plus people who spend the week and are “on vacation.”

These large groups impact other services that people take for granted, such as water supply, sewer treatment, fire and emergency access.

I understand personal property rights to a point. But when their investment property becomes an issue for the neighboring properties… well, don’t I have rights, too?
