OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
TRUMP: Now fear this
I fear Russia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Iran, collectively, less than I fear President Trump because he exemplifies the “enemy within” Cicero warned against two millennia ago.
SOCIALISM: Not a dirty word
The word “socialism” is often used as a negative label in the Letters to the Editor as well by the POTUS on Tuesday night, as in “socialism destroys nations.” That depiction of socialism is so contrary to my experi…
ACQUITTAL: Nothing to celebrate
The results of the impeachment process: a win for the Republicans and a loss for the Republic.
LEFTIES: More right than you think
They’re just a bunch of “lefties” trying to put their hands in your pockets. They’re “socialists” attempting to impose collectivism on Idaho’s struggling taxpayers; shady outsiders telling Idahoans what to do.
TAXES: All pay fair share
I applaud Rep. Jason Monks (R-Nampa) for introducing House Bill 399 into the 2020 Idaho Legislative Assembly. House Bill 399 would eliminate property taxes in Idaho. The only fair tax is one paid equally by ALL. Th…
SICK: Coronavirus vs. flu
Our federal government recently declared a National Health Emergency concerned with what they view as a potential pandemic from the coronavirus. Apparently, the stock market agrees with a 600 point crash in the Dow…
SENIORS: Hefty health tip
Re: Coeur d’Alene Press editorial “Fortitude in the Face of Flab,” Friday, Jan. 31. This editorial should be applied to a demographic that would greatly benefit from exercise, the senior citizen. Why? Because exerc…
TAXES: Don't forget the poor
What is wrong with our politicians? The proposed bill to eliminate property taxes and double the sales tax is the dumbest thing they have thought of. How do they think cutting all property tax will help the poor? A…
SIGN CHANGE: Not a sign of the times
A recent letter (Feb. 2) points out that Glacier National Park changed 3 signs which had stated that some glaciers would melt by 2020. The presumed point of that letter was to cast doubt on global climate change.
CLIMATE: The dueling carbons
Jim Hollingsworth’s My Turn column was very good with his “common sense” article on climate change. The only thing I’d like to add to the common sense is what I surmise when I see the satellite pictures of Earth, w…
TRUMP: Critics, explain 'monarch'
In two opinion pieces written the other day, DJ Studer and Morton Kraus referred to Trump as a monarch (I’ve heard others use king and dictator as well). I get it that some people don’t like him, but I don’t unders…
TRUMP: Opposition is wrong
The Government Accounting Office (GAO) released a statement Jan. 16 claiming that the president violated the law when he withheld funds from Ukraine. Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her media allies quickly pounced.
ELECTION: Casting a dark cloud
We, of the working, lower and non-ruling classes are apparently expected to vote in the election this fall. It’s the responsible, democratic thing to do, after all. It’s our duty. But this election is a little diff…
REPUBLICANS: Masters of deception
Which is it, Republicans? Trump did nothing wrong, or he extorted Ukraine using taxpayer money and governmental agencies to help in his re-election?
TAXES: The best solution
As a victim of the egregious local property tax system (my property tax has increased 70% since 2013, and now exceeds my Idaho income tax), I welcome serious talk of modifying, or capping, or even better, eliminati…
