URBAN: Cd'A doesn't qualify

| February 21, 2020 1:00 AM

I’ve said before that Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls are not urban by any stretch of the imagination. Spokane at 200,000-plus is urban, but Coeur d’Alene around 50,000 is basically a largeish village.

An urban renewal district should require it to be urban and it should require it to be already developed and in serious decline with nobody stepping up to re-develop it. In fact, URDs are being used to funnel public money into the pockets of already fat cat types who are too lazy to put together business plans to take to a BANK where they can get the money to build an economically viable proposal.

Everybody and their cousin is whining about property taxes, but HELLO! maybe if you weren’t spending property taxes on every politician’s and fat cat’s pet project instead of roads, the fire department, schools, sewers, etc., you wouldn’t have to raise taxes.

Jim Risch recently said that Idaho wasn’t ready for Paulette Jordan’s socialism. Really, Jim? As long as Coeur d’Alene owns its very own six-story parking garage built with money extorted from the property owners and not built by a company that owns and operates parking garages, I don’t want to hear any whining about socialism.
