Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
SAVED: Little bird, big hearts
Last Thursday, while my wife and I were using the drive-up window at a local bank, we heard some faint chirping. Our attention was drawn to what turned out to be a small bird in the drive-up lane adjacent to ours s…
MYTHS: Facts tend to serve better
If John Clark wants to debunk myths (My Turn: Time To Debunk Some Myths) he should stick to facts rather than wistful thinking. Repeating the same old myths doesn't make them true.
BOARD: Legal versus ethical
"It's my seat that's being filled, and I really have an interest that someone who thinks close to I think takes my seat." First of all, Ms. Brooks, it is not "your" seat, it is a seat on the Coeur d'Alene School Di…
PRINCIPAL: Let us know more
I saw a brief on a new principal for Coeur d'Alene High. I am very surprised that you skimmed over such an important item in our community. This has a huge impact on the community and the youth. It sounds like this…
FLAGS: Flying high in Spirit Lake
This is a rebuttal to the Readers Write letter "Flag" in your newspaper on Wednesday, June 1. I would like to suggest that Mr. Don Sizer clean up his own town (Post Falls) before he criticizes Spirit Lake's proud d…
SCHOOLS: Teachers prove their worth
Idaho public schools Superintendent Tom Luna isn't bothered that Idaho ranks 50th nationally in per student spending. His spokesperson, Melissa McGrath, said that spending does not always equal results. Her evidenc…

ASSESSED: It doesn't add up

McEUEN: It's only land, people
So the throngs of people came out to make their voices heard about the fate of McEuen Field and Tubbs Hill. There was anger and passion which filled the room at Woodland Middle School that evening. Heated rhetoric …
CHOIR: Politics ruined experience
I totally agree with the letter to the editor written by Betty Ann Henderson, regarding the turn of events on May 21, at the performance, by the Lake City Harmonizers and the Post Falls choirs held at the Lake City…
CDA: Progress is killing the city
My family moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1970, from the east coast, when Coeur d'Alene really was Mayberry. Since then it has been ruined in the name of "growth and progress." With so many families unable to put food on…
CLERK: Comment was illuminating
I found it interesting that our County Clerk Cliff Hayes said recently that assistance to the poor in Kootenai County to pay primarily medical expenses is a "burden to the taxpayers." You know those pesky poor peop…
BROOKS: Fare thee well, Edie
Over the years, I have certainly had my share of disagreements with both Edie and the other Trustees and have often expressed my objections, thoughts and concerns through various articles in The Press. Despite thos…
