McEUEN: Editorial was insulting
On Friday, May 27 an editorial was printed that was surprising, very disappointing (I had come to expect more from the editorial staff) and downright insulting to most people.
The editorial in general was about McEuen park. It started off by stating that only old vets use the ball field (not even close to true) then went on to refer to most people that use the Third Street dock as Joe Sixpack indicating that only loud, obnoxious, beer guzzling yahoos use the dock therefore the dock would not be missed. The editorial then went on to attack anyone that might disagree with anything elected officials do by indicating the person must be some kind of subversive with their own agenda and just wants to get their candidate elected.
It is not only the right, it is the duty of every American to speak up when they feel that their elected officials are taking a wrong turn as in this case when the officials lied stating that no tax dollars would be used then stated that LCDC would put in $12 million for the project.
Yes we elect people to make governmental decisions for us but there comes a point when those officials should refer back to the citizens for approval, with some $30 million at stake this was definitely one of those times. You would think that any politician worth their salt and really concerned about doing the right thing for all the citizens would have jumped at the opportunity to take the burden of this decision off their shoulders and have the plan approved or disapproved by the voters. With the attitude of The Press's editorial and the attitude of the city officials one can only surmise that someone higher up the food chain is pulling the strings.
Like I said very disappointing.
