OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
ISSUES: The ox will reveal all
Del Cameron’s letter regarding the “He’s on his knees tracking the president (sic), turning over every leaf, rock and clump of dirt that he may have touched” reminded me of the “hoards” of private investigators sea…
SCHOOLS: Time to pull together
I have been out of town and am just catching up on the “news.” In the paper of May 23, Mr. Tom Hamilton, Board of Trustees Chair for the Coeur d’Alene School District, when commenting on the election of new members…
BIBLE: What is an abomination?
Seems with all the hullabaloo around the Biblical “abomination,” it would be a fun and educational exercise to print the “Why Can’t I Own a Canadian?” response to Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s broadcast rationale for de…
CANCER: Why June 18 matters
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers with a five-year survival rate of just 6 percent and no early detection tools or effective treatments.
ORDINANCE: I'll do what is right
I am disappointed by the anti-discrimination ordinance recently passed in the city of Coeur d’Alene. Religious issues aside (yes, I am a Christian that believes homosexuality goes against the law of God), if I owne…
COUNCIL: Hell, here we come
Thank you City Council of Coeur d’Alene for opening the floodgates to hell by adopting a city ordinance that promotes a lifestyle to sin. With the exception of Steve Adams once again you have voted against the majo…
RESPONSE: Let's talk about sin
As usual, when someone — in this case Jeff Langford or Pastor Paul Van Noy — has the courage to speak the truth, instead of tickling the ears of those who seek only to satisfy their base urges, the standard attacks…
MUSIC: Deserves more attention
Kudos to Mr. Jim Phillips and the Coeur d’Alene High School String & Chamber Orchestras, the Symphonic Band, and the Wind Ensemble for a delightful and well presented concert on May 22. As a former oboe player, I k…
SHERIFF: Looking out for children
For the past few days there have been several letters to the editor about the so-called “discrimination” against gays. Sheriff Wolfinger has taken a stand about the Boy Scouts of America deciding to admit openly ga…
COUNCIL: Vote was PC, wrong
Now you’ve done it! You know it was wrong but to please every voter you thought it was only politically correct so you joined the crowd. Now Coeur d’Alene can join the Washington group and be the home of the “Gays”…
NRA: Mark missed the mark
It seems Mr. Mark Komar’s tirade against the NRA (Sunday, June 2) is just another foolish attempt by the leftists to discredit the NRA (National Rifle Association). I am totally disgusted by his implication that th…
IRS: Wrong idea about tea party
I was gratified to learn that the Tea Party, Patriot and Constitution organizations are applying for nonprofit status through the IRS as “social-welfare” organizations. It’s nice to know that these groups don’t jus…
LAYOFFS: Tell it like it is
Kendra Carroll, the Virginia-based vice president of human resources for Transtector Systems/Smiths Power, with one year of experience with the company, can certainly spin the truth however she wants. However, the …
LAND CODE: Add up the confusion
Why is the proposed new zoning code 500 pages long while the old one is only 128 pages? Some say a “land-use code” needs to be longer than a “zoning code.” Is that like an automobile is longer than a car or bambooz…
FISHING: Caught a great time
A gift my late father gave me was the love for fishing. On May 31, I was able to share that experience, thanks to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and their “Take Me Fishing” program with the special needs stu…
