IRS: Wrong idea about tea party

| June 9, 2013 9:00 PM

I was gratified to learn that the Tea Party, Patriot and Constitution organizations are applying for nonprofit status through the IRS as “social-welfare” organizations. It’s nice to know that these groups don’t just complain about the government (which is you and me), they are actually doing something tangible to solve problems in this country like homelessness, poverty and disease.

I had been under the impression from previous newspaper reports that Tea Party type groups’ only suggested solution to our country’s problems is that we turn to Jesus Christ as the solution to our problems. As a born-again Christian, I hate to bother Jesus over earthly concerns. I usually turn to Him for help more with spiritual issues.

I am sure that the social welfare provided by Tea Party type groups is funded mostly by its members turning over their government checks as they wouldn’t want to keep socialistic money from programs like Social Security.

One problem is that in my research on these Tea party type groups, I haven’t found any place where we can apply for this “social welfare.” Would someone from these groups please let us know where people could go to get this help?

Or another option is that the IRS return to its policy of denying tax-exempt status to all political lobbying.
