Microtrauma and your health

When we think about our body and some of the aches and pains we experience from day to day, it is often times easy to figure out the origin of our symptoms. If you were in a car crash and you walked away with a bit of neck pain, you could most likely attribute that pain to the crash and the trauma your body experienced. The same can be said for a wide variety of injuries.

Let's celebrate America's exceptional legal system on Law Day

The first day of May is Law Day, which was first designated by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1958 to celebrate our remarkable legal system. The rule of law is the bedrock of our society. The law protects us, our freedoms and our property against arbitrary government action.

MY TURN: Unity in diversity: A plea for understanding

As a proud resident of North Idaho, I feel a profound bond to this community, a bond that's resilient and rooted in the shared love we all carry for our home. It's a bond that's been nurtured through shared experiences, hardships, and triumphs that this stunning corner of the world has bestowed upon us.

CYT: Miracle delivered

The staff and board of CYT North Idaho would like to thank everyone who has or is donating to our after-school theater arts program for kids. We prayed for a miracle and we received many and now our kids will still have the opportunity to participate in classes, a showcase, and hopefully even a Cabaret style event.

SPENDING: Vote out 'deadbeats'

In light of the growing problems with our federal government, I think it’s time to throw many of our elected officials out of office and charge them with malpractice. Many of them are not there for the good of the country but rather to feather their own nest. There is only one way we can pay off our national debt. We need to stop all foreign aid. We need to stop the war and bring our troops home. This would save billions. We need to quit spending money we don’t have.

Kootenai County THANKS: And pickleball for all

I would like to share my appreciation, and thank the city of Coeur d’Alene for a wonderful fun filled day; also, for the pickleball players who came out to volunteer, play, teach, and support our efforts to grow the sport in our area. I would also like to thank all those who visited our pickleball table, to either sign up for our upcoming clinics, or ask about the fastest growing sport in the United States. Many asked, “What in the world is pickleball?” Then jumped right in and tried it!

Standing Firm When the World Is Shaken

Many thought that the anger, vitriol, and deep-seated rage against both Left and Right in our nation would expose how we have lost our moorings. But a new situation showed up to upstage the dark side of culture's dysfunction. A new symptom has emerged over the last several weeks.

Arbor Day: Seeing our forests for the trees

Around this time each year we celebrate our outdoor world and natural environment. From Arbor Day to Earth Day, I am reminded why Idaho’s natural resources are a keystone to our history and our future.

Creating a permanent memory

Food for Thought

Trips to Silverwood, camping in the Idaho wilderness and conquering Legos Angry Birds Star Wars, tops the list of, "Things I did on my summer vacation," stapled to the bulletin board on the walls of my school. Reading each paper I wonder, will these students remember in 20 years what happened during their summer of 2013?

MIDTOWN: Council is listening

We are five of the neighbors and business owners of Midtown and we have been actively engaged in discussions about the future of our city. We feel that it is important to let our fellow neighbors know that the mayor and the entire current City Council have empathetically listened to our input and have supported us in our endeavors to halt certain projects that may have damaging effects. We consider these individuals to be our allies in planning the future of Midtown and we appreciate the hard work and devotion that they have put into these projects and their service to Coeur d’Alene.

THANKS: For hot chocolate, warm heart

My sister and I would like to say thank you to a very kind man. Our 4H club, Denim and Diamonds, were selling Christmas wreaths last Saturday. A man walked up to us and bought a pine wreath. Later, he came back with eight hot chocolates and $100 donation! He and other nice people from our community helped us collect more than $400 for our group’s fundraiser. This money will help our group pay our yearly expenses. It was a big surprise, so we just wanted to say thank you for the donations and money for wreaths!
