HATE: Hurting our community

| March 22, 2023 1:00 AM

The current hatred of humans to other humans in Coeur d’Alene is a clear hazard to the very wellbeing of our community and the fabric of our society. Hate that is eroding our city because we have developed a culture that promotes looking at people with the goal of finding differences instead of listening to others with a desire to find understanding. We are creating a climate that endorses treating others as if they are inferior, rather than with dignity and respect.

I think about a traditional motto of the United States “One from many.” Have we forgotten that the difference of others is what makes us successful as a country and society? Why is there a desire to manipulate the law so certain people are felt as though they are less than equal? When did we forget that we live in a country where we are taught that all people are created equal?

How we combat this virus that is threatening our city is by changing our mindset. We start paying attention to not what stands between us, but what stands before us. We put our future first and our differences aside to build a community that is understanding and accepting. A community that does not strive for perfection, but one that strives for purpose. To mature our city to be committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of a human. A city that produces leaders who seek harm for none and harmony for all.
