Remembering 'why' you liked a wine
Every year around this time, when we gather with good friends and family we always delve into our personal library to pull out some of our old favorites and share them with those closest to us. This year our Thanksgiving gathering was smaller than normal just me, Mary and another couple who are close friends of ours. We pulled out three older bottles from our library to enjoy over the two nights we celebrated Thanksgiving Day; 1994 Ridge Geyserville, 1994 Ridge Lytton Springs and 1993 Trefethen Reserve Cabernet.
What's really new?
There is a whole big world of wine out there! This is why we taste as much as we do. We all have our favorites no doubt but for me and I think most wine consumers drinking the same thing all the time gets kind of boring. There are also some new wine ideas that are just plain silly, but the important thing through all of our trying and sampling and looking we find some really cool, and truly new things to expand our own pallets and to enhance the wine experience of our customers and the North Idaho wine community.

A closer look at Bush I and Bush II
One of life's most frustrating facts is that the here-and-now is a result of the there-and-then.

We must care for our public lands
After reading the June 3 article titled “Bullet Holes and Trash,” I feel compelled to respond and call attention to what is at stake when it comes to public lands and the access we are granted to them by way of being a citizen of this country. Our access to public lands is in jeopardy, not only because of the vandalism and misuse of the lands highlighted in “Bullet Holes and Trash,” but also by the policy makers elected in this country.
MESS: How we can all solve it
As I see it there are ways "we the people" can take a stand and demand that those in Washington do their job as our elected officials should be responsible/accountable for their actions.
FREEDOM: Don't lose precious gift
In February 1913 the Income Tax was established. Then on Christmas Eve, Congress passed the Federal Reserve Act. What great gifts from our government!
McEUEN: Feds set bad precedent
It comes as no surprise that the onerous and arrogant attitudes and policies of our federal government wouldn't take long to trickle down to our local governments. I am speaking in regard to the proposed radical changes of McEuen Field and Third Street Launch. Recent remarks made by Mayor Bloem and some city council members would lead the voting citizens of this community to believe that this local government is increasingly acting more like a monarchy rather than a republic. This is just another affirmation of the abridgment of our liberties, rights, and public access.
VETERANS: At last, a warm welcome
Summer 1970 I arrived back in the United States from Vietnam at the San Francisco International Airport. What confronted me was not what you see today on the news but rather groups of hippies confronting us, screaming epithets and throwing tomato juice on our uniforms.
CDA: Right reasons to run
Recently there have been many letters suggesting that School Board "change is good." Not all change is for the better. Please read what the candidates represent that are running for Cd'A School Board positions.
PROTEST: Don't fall to their scam
All I can say is WOW! When I read the article about the church from Kansas coming here to protest on our school grounds, I was appalled. Then I started to think about it.
SCHOOLS: Vote for bond issue
There is a school bond election coming in August that needs our unanimous support. Yes, even from those of you who never vote yes for a bond.
RECALL: What's it really about?
What’s this whole thing really about? It’s not about Republicans or Democrats. It’s not about us being poor losers and it’s not about the same old group that’s against everything that’s brought forth.
HAZEL: For kids and taxpayers, too
I support Christa Hazel for Coeur d’Alene School Trustee Zone 1. She is qualified and has the experience necessary to represent parents and taxpayers on our school board.
AMADOR: The effective choice
This fall we have a clear choice for our State Representative for House Seat 4B. Republican Paul Amador is the strong fiscal conservative we need for Coeur d’Alene and Idaho. Paul Amador grew up on a family farm where he learned the very important life lessons about a hard day’s work as well as how to ensure that you live within your means. He understands that the solution to our problems is not always to spend more money, but that sometimes you need to be more efficient with your money. He has a degree in business and economics and operates two family owned businesses.
SWIM: And save lives
I thank you for your April 3 article on the Kroc 3rd Grade Swim program. It has been near and dear to my heart for more than 20 years and I am honored to be a part of it.
Fix your hormones with fiber
Many women suffer from hormonal imbalances such as PMS, uterine fibroids, hot flashes, PCOS, and acne. One of the most effective things to help restore balance is to include more fiber in your diet.
VOTE: For Rep. Raul Labrador
To all who despise our American Constitution and its Bill of Rights, all who would love to make America a third world nation, all who would apologize to the world for our country (despite the fact that 93,000 American servicemen and women are laid to rest in foreign cemeteries), and to all liberal pseudo-intellectuals who believe that you can negotiate with evil — you need not read on!
SERVICE: Agencies go above, beyond
I would like to start this letter off by thanking the city of Coeur d’Alene Street Department and also the nice lady at the Idaho Transportation Department (Andrea). A few days ago a dead deer was found in our yard. My husband is 86 years old and disabled. I have a broken arm and our son cannot lift anything. I was told to call Fish and Game as they would certainly want to know how and why the deer was dead. I called them and explained our circumstance to the lady and she said no, we do not do this. This is your responsibility.
