PIG: Put fault where it lies
It deeply saddens me that someone did not have enough sense to secure a pig in the back of their vehicle before transporting it to the fair. So the pig falls from their vehicle and has to be butchered because it was so badly injured. Hopefully that was the only animal they own.
Summer road trip survival
Summer vacations are here and so are the long and sometimes dreaded road trips. Regardless if your children are toddlers or teens, keeping road trips healthy is always a challenge. Typical road trip food consists of convenience store calorie laden cuisine such as chips, sodas and candy. Simply, a 16 ounce soda, bag of chips and a candy bar can add up to over 1,100 calories. That is more than 1/2 of a persons daily calorie needs provided just from a few snacks. Couple that with long hours of sitting in a car and this can wreak havoc on your daily physical activity and nutritional needs.
OINK! Prairie Pig gratitude
I would like to thank everyone in the Post Falls community for helping Post Falls High School to raise over seven thousand pounds of food for the food bank. This is an all-time record for our school's Prairie Pig food drive. Thanks to your contributions, we not only helped the people of our community, but we also brought home Porkchop. Yes, I mean the pig.

Wine talk
We recently held a wine dinner at the Clark House with Bryan Hinschberger of Amphora Distributing, whom we talked about last week. The staff at the Clark House was fabulous to work with and the meal was not only delicious, well-paired and well-presented, but the evening was flawlessly timed. Despite being for sale, the restaurant and inn remain open and will continue to operate as they always do. If you have not been, you should go - the setting is unrivaled. On this beautiful mid-September night, sitting in the garden for the first course, paired with some wonderful French sparkling wine, was magical.

GOOKIN: Letter was 'appalling'
On 1-5-16 Councilman Dan Gookin attended a special meeting of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee. He was so appalled at what he witnessed, he was compelled to write about it. His letter to the editor said a man was standing outside the door passing out fliers to people entering the building. Mr. Gookin alleges some people ignored the man and at least one person was rude and berated the man. There were about 50 committeepersons in the meeting along with 20 or more spectators. I wonder if the offensive person Mr. Gookin saw and heard was a member or a spectator?
