Recently there has been much discussion regarding the open primary initiative. There are several things to consider: our country is based on the multiple party system for the exchange of ideas to provide what is best for the people and the country and the realization that no single party, religion or philosophy has the answer to all of society’s needs, rather it stifles dialogue, the exchange of ideas, growth and evolution.

ELECTION: Food for thought

On Election Day, it was again an honor to serve as a poll worker. Tears of pride came to my eyes as the long lines of citizens waited in the cold, sometimes rainy weather without complaint passing the time in friendly conversation. On that cold, gray day, it was evident there was the bright light of patriotism in our midst. Our identities were that of American, not Republican, not Democrat or other. It was time to cast our votes as our forefathers had intended and the lost lives and bravery of those who continue to fight and die guarantee to us all.

Hands-on with STEM

Complaining without proposing a solution to a problem is counterproductive. My staff is used to this declaration - I state it often. Now, when a staff member I work with has an issue with a policy, procedure, system or decision I make, they come with a solution to resolve the issue. I'm not overly supportive of complaining for the sake of discourse. If you are struggling with a problem, and feel it necessary to talk with me about your problem, I expect you to have an option or idea to resolve the problem.

Post Falls school levies won't raise taxes

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff, and most importantly the students of Post Falls School District, I would like to thank the patrons of Post Falls School District for their continuing support. The citizens of Post Falls have overwhelmingly supported both facility bond proposals and supplemental levy proposals to help provide high quality educational opportunities to our children. As a growing school district, it has been necessary to ask for more space for our student enrollment. We have also asked our community to supplement the state funding appropriation for operations in order to maintain quality academic programming for our students. This has been especially important during the last five years due to cuts in state funding during the economic downturn.
