EXTREMISM: Speak up now

| January 19, 2022 1:00 AM

Extremism is degrading our republic and democracy. The legislators who fail to denounce violent actions of political zealots within their party are responsible.

When Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election, left wing thugs took to the streets of Seattle and Portland and began destroying federal facilities and looting private businesses. Hillary and other Democrats remained silent.

Now, one year after the siege of the Capitol, many Republicans, our senators included, fail to denounce the actions of some members within their party.

Our republic was founded on the value of integrity and honesty, not the elegance to any one political party. Our republic relies on the actions of our elected officials in Washington.

I was a member of the mainstream Republican Party that first voted our senators into office and I have voted for them ever since. Three months ago, I posed several questions relative to the siege on the Capitol. My questions remain unanswered.

Silence is not acceptable. Every Idahoan has the right to ask questions of those who represent them in Washington.

Legislators must be true to their conscience. The day of the attack, many Republican legislators were aghast and condemned the attack. Now, that number has dwindled to only a few. Political pressure has trumped truth. The soul of our nation is at risk.

The senators have more to do than personally respond to one individual. They do, however, have well-paid staff to answer for them. God be with you and guide senators.
