EXTREMISM: Speak up now
Extremism is degrading our republic and democracy.
LIBRARY NETWORK FRIENDS: Grateful to community
The Friends of the Community Library Network wish to thank the community for the generous support in both donating and purchasing used books for our fundraising. Formed as an Unincorporated Nonprofit Association with the Idaho Secretary of State, we are found online at www.communitylibrary.net/about/#friends. Our mission is simply to advocate “for libraries as places to nurture and enhance lifelong learning.”
OPEN PRIMARIES: Risks becoming a one-party system
Recently there has been much discussion regarding the open primary initiative. There are several things to consider: our country is based on the multiple party system for the exchange of ideas to provide what is best for the people and the country and the realization that no single party, religion or philosophy has the answer to all of society’s needs, rather it stifles dialogue, the exchange of ideas, growth and evolution.
RECALL: Say no to 'citified park'
An open letter to the citizens of Coeur d’Alene, McCall and Sandpoint:
Spring cleaning with Biofeedback
Spring is in the air and it is the time of year we clean up our yards and our homes and get rid of what we no longer need. This fresh start makes us feel good, so for the sake of your health and well-being, why not also get rid of what you no longer need from your body, mind, and spirit? "I have not felt this good in years," "I am sleeping better and have so much more energy," and "I feel like this giant weight has lifted off my shoulders." These are just a few comments from some of our satisfied Biofeedback clients.
ELECTION: Food for thought
On Election Day, it was again an honor to serve as a poll worker. Tears of pride came to my eyes as the long lines of citizens waited in the cold, sometimes rainy weather without complaint passing the time in friendly conversation. On that cold, gray day, it was evident there was the bright light of patriotism in our midst. Our identities were that of American, not Republican, not Democrat or other. It was time to cast our votes as our forefathers had intended and the lost lives and bravery of those who continue to fight and die guarantee to us all.
U.S.: The enemy within
Thomas Jefferson said, "I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country."
New leadership at Post Falls Chamber
It is a fresh new year and we have 2020 vision — Edith Lovejoy Pierce wrote it perfectly when she said, “We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
Our Gem: A great partnership, a shared vision
Our Gem for May 29.
TEACHERS: Support these three
As a collection of concerned teachers and educators in the Coeur d’Alene School District, we would like to express our thoughts regarding the school board elections.

OPINION: Political incivility in the time of coronavirus
COVID-19 has revealed daily heroism all around us, extraordinary and everyday heroes who care for our sick, deliver necessary goods, stock our stores and keep our society functioning.

Idaho marching in lock-step with special interests on animal abuse
The actions of the Idaho Legislature will soon impact every voter in our state. You may ask: "How is this possible?" You will find the answer through the disappointing tale which follows.
Why we oppose Northern Lakes fire levy
The Northern Lakes Fire Protective District (NLFPD) has recently held several "informational" meetings regarding the upcoming tax override election on May 15. As residents of the "back" side of Hayden Lake it was disheartening to learn that the proposal would have absolutely no benefit to us, but would increase our tax assessments to the district by almost 50 percent!
My turn: Why we oppose the fire district levy

Soldiers take care of business
For some, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, a long holiday weekend to head to the beach or fire up the barbecue. I sincerely hope that Americans attach a deeper meaning to this unique holiday.

Hands-on with STEM
Complaining without proposing a solution to a problem is counterproductive. My staff is used to this declaration - I state it often. Now, when a staff member I work with has an issue with a policy, procedure, system or decision I make, they come with a solution to resolve the issue. I'm not overly supportive of complaining for the sake of discourse. If you are struggling with a problem, and feel it necessary to talk with me about your problem, I expect you to have an option or idea to resolve the problem.
Post Falls school levies won't raise taxes
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff, and most importantly the students of Post Falls School District, I would like to thank the patrons of Post Falls School District for their continuing support. The citizens of Post Falls have overwhelmingly supported both facility bond proposals and supplemental levy proposals to help provide high quality educational opportunities to our children. As a growing school district, it has been necessary to ask for more space for our student enrollment. We have also asked our community to supplement the state funding appropriation for operations in order to maintain quality academic programming for our students. This has been especially important during the last five years due to cuts in state funding during the economic downturn.
