ADDIS: Ideal for job

I am writing this letter because in the 25 years I have known Jim Addis, he has always been committed, enthusiastic and passionate about our community. Over the years, our paths crossed frequently in our community efforts in support of K-12 education.

No headline

I would like to know what our congressional legislators have to say about making America medically independent. More importantly, what legislation are they going to propose to return manufacturing of our critical infrastructure items to the USA? Medical supplies, equipment and medicines are produced in, you guessed it, China. Ninety-eight percent of America’s medicine is produced in China. Planet Earth is on lockdown and it all originated in China. To save face they blamed our country for their virus and demanded an apology or withhold pharmaceuticals and other critical supplies.

ELECTIONS: Integrity essentials

Election integrity has been a national hot-button issue the past few years, but until the November 2021 election, I never doubted the integrity of our local Kootenai County elections or our poll workers, who so generously donate their time to serve our community.

Let love grow where vandals’ hatred lies

We learned, according to a Press article, that vandals destroyed a tree in memory of Anne Frank in G.O. Phippeny Park at Eighth Street and Montana Avenue. The small tree that was planted in 2006 accompanied a plaque honoring Anne Frank.

CDA: Work puts clamps on family

Our home is across the street from a sewer project near Fernan Lake. We have watched with some dismay as Fernan Lake Road was torn up and traffic was diverted to our street. Now, as expected, our short street is being torn up for the new sewer laterals for the homes on the other side of the street. We have had some preliminary construction work on this street while the work was done on Fernan Lake Drive. We have been expecting this, so what is the problem?

FIREFIGHTERS: We back these four

The Coeur d’Alene Firefighters have a strong interest in the future of public safety in our city. We are on the streets serving you proudly everyday with an eye toward making our community safer through training, education and job proficiency. That’s our focus. Unfortunately, we don’t feel that focus is shared by all of the candidates. That’s why we feel the Nov. 5 election is so vital to our community.

Core muscles

Most of us spend the majority of our time everyday in a forward flexed position. We hunch over our cars' steering wheel, computer or just washing the dishes. This forward flexed position leads to poor posture and a weak, inefficient core. As physical therapists, we see so many injuries that could have been prevented if the core just had a little training everyday. The core is a complex group of muscles but the core is pretty easy to train with a little bit of instruction and understanding.

LEVY: Rewarding local excellence

As a life-long resident of Kootenai County, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact the schools in the Coeur d'Alene School district have had on our local community. I have seen elementary students participating in human rights celebrations and entertaining the crowds at the Festival of Trees. Middle school students have worked diligently to honor our veterans at events like the Pearl Harbor Celebration at Lakes magnet Middle School and to collect thousands of pounds of food for the food banks in the area. High school students have energized crowds at the "Fight for the Fish" basketball game and have generously given numerous pints of blood to support our local blood bank.

How you can boost our regional economy

Here in the Idaho Panhandle, we share a common goal. Just like other regions of our great nation, we seek ways to stimulate our local economy with jobs, tax revenue, education and a better way of life.

MOORE: Relatives say, Thanks Cd'A

This is the first letter to the editor we have ever written. But never have we felt more love or pride for our community than we feel at this time. We could not let our gratitude go unspoken. We are the grandparents of Dylon Moore, son of Sgt. Greg Moore who died in the line of duty. The love and generosity displayed by the people of Coeur d’Alene and surrounding communities has been overwhelming. From Dylon’s soccer team and the Police Department, to folks we have never met, the outpouring of love and support has touched our lives in a way that will never be forgotten.

U.S.: Seeing a cloudy future

Are we doomed as a country? Are we to follow in the steps and demise of great nations that have gone before us? Well, let’s look at it for a moment. We were founded 231 years ago by a group of mostly godly men who drafted a constitution that would stand the trials and tribulations of time — until now! There IS a shadow government inside and outside our present administration, planning to overthrow our duly-elected president — obstructing and resisting every action that he takes — rules of law and decency are gone — destroying him by hook or crook. And it’s OK with many of our fellow liberal Americans. Will they succeed? Who knows.
