VOTE: For better America

When I was young, things were different. We were different people. We were civil when it came to politics. I was taught that our president was given dignity and respect by all of us. The president represented America, even if we didn’t always agree. We did not make our president the political punching bag in the eyes of the world. Americans carried our identity with honor.

LEVY: No time to fail

Vote yes for Coeur d’Alene’s children in our public schools! The proposed levy on March 10th allows District 271 to maintain services that are not supported by state funding. It will also support smaller class sizes and supply new textbooks.

HOWARD: For Congress

The time has come to stop counting on big government to fix our problems and focus on our own community needs, where the people are who know what their problems are and have better ideas to fix them. Libertarian principles want the removal of barriers to self-regulate, self-sponsor, self-discipline, and the removal of governmental anchors which are handicapping us in spirit and in our will to make OUR OWN communities livable.

CDA SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes

The failure of the May 16 levy would bring many significant cuts to our local schools. I’d like to call attention to one area in particular — our elementary school paraprofessionals.

PRESS: Disrespectful coverage

Idaho is often portrayed as ‘the’ most conservative state, and Kootenai Co. is a Mecca for such citizens.

REPEAL: Sex will be everywhere

Discipline is vital to the efficiency of our armed forces. The military as a whole must have its attention concentrated on fulfilling its mission, which is the armed defense of our nation. And each and every individual member of the military must be willing to sacrifice their own personal interests for the sake of protecting our society. Homosexuality drives a knife directly into the heart of military discipline.

The garden doesn't need to causeaches, pains

As we really get going into the heat of summer, many of us backyard gardeners are finally reaping some benefits for our efforts, and are feeling the effects of those efforts as well! Just as we spend countless hours toiling away, taking care to remove the weeds and pests so our plants can flourish and give us an enjoyable harvest to nurture our bodies, so too must we take care to nurture ourselves from the inside out.

Best of 2015: Golden Corral

When our first Golden Corral ® restaurant opened in Fayetteville, North Carolina back in 1973, a fledgling Golden Corral Corporation took a confident first step in the restaurant business, beginning a tradition of offering all of our guests real, wholesome foods in a family-friendly atmosphere at a great value. Nearly 40 years later, Golden Corral ® is well known as America's #1 buffet and grill.

Don't lose rural soul of county

Between our two daughters, I spent 15 years as a support parent in Marion Crumb’s Diablos 4H group: hundreds of hours hauling horses to shows, weeks at horse camp, trips to Boise and Moscow for Horse Bowl competitions, etc.

A great performance: The Endocrine System

Doctor of Oriental Medicine

The allure of a great orchestral performance is the way in which all musicians play beautiful music, harmoniously. There is something quite exquisite about a good performance that penetrates deep into our soul and enriches our lives. In our body, we also have an orchestra that needs to work harmoniously so that our inner beauty, our inner soul, our inner peace is expressed in such a way as to embody the feeling of a good performance. Well, we don't usually feel the performance as it happens, but the essence of it when we feel wonderful!

Getting America back on track

I was encouraged by the article written by Jack Evensizer in the June 14 edition of the Press. Mr. Evensizer gave a great synopsis of the history of our flag, but also included a much deeper message that needs to be said. I hope that it will be taken to heart by adults and taught to our children as well.

Our winter and spring line up takes shape

When we first opened our shop, I don’t think Mary or I ever envisioned how popular our monthly winemaker dinners and in-shop tastings would become! Of course, a big part of their popularity is being partnered with a wonderful restaurant in Fleur de Sel. Husband and wife ownership team, Laurent and Patricia Zirotti, have assembled a great crew of front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house employees who deliver seamless, professional service and great food at every turn. These monthly events have become so popular that even with expanding how many guests we take for each dinner, most times they sell out within 48 hours of the invite going out and they are some of the toughest tickets to get.
