IMMIGRANTS: Tell us how many are here
Give us the numbers. We have a major crisis at the Mexican border that doesn’t get the attention it should. Citizens should know what our government is spending and on what. After all, it’s our tax dollars that are paying for this avoidable mess.
Three generations of leaders shaped by District 271
Today we are featuring a wonderful family full of leaders, who for generations have contributed significant economic and community impact in our region, including providing over 1.5 million square feet of commercial space, to over 200 businesses. Meet Ryan Nipp, partner at Parkwood Business Properties, the largest private commercial real estate developer in Kootenai County, and past chair, Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber Board of Directors.
Idahoans react to reported racial incident
Officials and organizations across Idaho reacted on Tuesday to the reported racial incident involving the University of Utah women’s basketball program in downtown Coeur d'Alene. Here are some of their statements:
MY TURN: Dereliction of Duty
Congress again avoided a government shutdown and kicked the can down the road for another 45 days, but much damage has been and continues to be done to our all-volunteer military by irresponsible members of Congress.
THANK YOU: To Kootenai County Commissioner Bill Brooks
On April 13, Bayview residents appealed to the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners over a major subdivision with 24 homes on 8 acres destined for our small town. Our primary concern was the opening of a secondary exit that would create a thoroughfare through our quiet neighborhoods. Incidentally, this second egress is not a county code since the subdivision is less than 25 homes.
ELECTION: Vote for Jimmy McAndrew
This letter is to encourage the good people of Hayden to please support our public schools and vote for Jimmy McAndrew for Zone 2 trustee. Jimmy has lived in North Idaho all his life and has proven himself to be a conservative, productive, intelligent and invaluable member of this community. In addition to a successful career in banking that continues to thrive, Jimmy has served in countless local volunteer positions. Please visit his website yourself to see how he has selflessly dedicated himself to our community.
The power of change: A message from your chair
As we embark on this exciting journey into 2024, I am thrilled to share with you the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead for our businesses and our community. As your new chairman of the board, I am honored to lead our collaborative efforts toward a year of innovation, growth, and unparalleled value for our members.
EXCEL: Came through again for music program
Thank you to the Excel committee for your continued support of our music program in our community and here at Skyway Elementary!
ELECTION: Vote for Tenbrink and McAndrew
As a proud employee of the Coeur d’Alene School District, and the mother of two current Coeur d’Alene School District students, I urge you to vote for Heather Tenbrink and Jimmy McAndrew in the upcoming school board election on Nov. 7. Heather has proven herself to be an intelligent, reasonable board member who works hard to make sure the students in the Coeur d’Alene School District have everything they need to become successful, contributing members of our community.
Gratitude for our newspaper carriers
October 7th was Newspaper Carrier Day, a day to honor the devoted team of people who make it possible for us to maintain the flow of information in our community.
MEMORIAL DAY: They gave their lives for our freedom
As we are about to celebrate Memorial Day, for those who have never served in the military and have no clue what it took in World War I and World War II to secure our freedom.
OPINION: Rejecting racism and the status quo
Party of Lincoln must root out racism
CDA SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes
The failure of the May 16 levy would bring many significant cuts to our local schools. I’d like to call attention to one area in particular — our elementary school paraprofessionals.
MY TURN: Come together against the tide
An open invitation to serve on the side of light
GRATITUDE: Garden Club generosity goes far
A huge shout out to the Coeur d’Alene Garden Club for their continual support of the Hayden Meadows Greenhouse. Their generosity contributes to all 500+ students who actively grow vegetables and flowers for the local community, our school gardens, and our local food banks.
LAKELAND SCHOOL LEVIES: Vote yes
On May 16, you have the opportunity to support your local schools and surrounding community by voting yes. As a renewal of the existing supplemental levy, our continued financial support will have a direct impact by funding safety officers, extracurricular activities, full-day kindergarten, staff, security, electives and building maintenance/improvements. These programs need us!
OPINION: Republicans for health care
If you are a regular reader of the Coeur d’Alene Press, you are well aware of the divisive politics railing our community. As a long-standing North Idaho Republican, it was this division and subsequent damage to our community that motivated me and more than 80 other local longtime Republicans to form the North Idaho Republicans group. It’s our belief that we will do more good for our community by developing thoughtful ways to improve our local institutions and quality of life rather than inciting fear and bringing institutions like our community college, schools and libraries to the brink of destruction.
Gratitude for our newspaper carriers
As President of the Hagadone Corporation's Communications Division, I wish to share my sincere pride and gratitude. This year, we celebrate the 131st Anniversary of the Coeur d'Alene Press, and today, we celebrate the dedicated men and women who have ensured the Voice of Kootenai County reaches our readers and subscribers for more than a century.
ELECTION: Vote for Griffin, Schroeder and Gibbons
Do not let our School District be held hostage to the political divisiveness we’ve seen in West Bonner County School District and the NIC board. I have lived in the Silver Valley for 50+ years. I support our public education system and the very dedicated and hardworking employees in School District 391. It’s easy to take for granted what you have until you don’t have it. Democracy, public education, and public libraries are just a few of the systems that serve all of us and are crucial to the functioning of successful communities.
