MY TURN: Idaho's child care crisis: Rising costs force health care workers out of the workforce, impacting businesses and families
Recent findings from the Idaho Department of Labor reveals that Idaho's overall workforce is significantly affected by the escalating cost and limited accessibility of childcare, with a particularly strong impact on healthcare workers. The financial strain and lack of childcare options are forcing valued healthcare workers to leave their jobs, subsequently hindering healthcare facilities' ability to recruit and retain staff and limiting the earning potential of parents in healthcare roles. The United Way of North Idaho (UWNI) is actively working to bring attention to the childcare crisis to support all local families, including those essential to our healthcare system, and finding long-term solutions.

SNR marks 40th anniversary with open house
SNR clients take on many responsibilities. They grow vegetables in the Shared Harvest Community Garden, host a Kiwanis AKTION Club and provide community service at food banks. "You may think you don’t need the experiences provided by SNR, as a participant or volunteer, but you may know someone who would benefit from knowing about it,” said volunteer and new board member, Suzanne Knutson. "For an organization to succeed, and thrive for over 40 years is remarkable, and this Open House is an opportunity for our community to celebrate with participants, staff, volunteers, and donors.”

THE CHEAP SEATS with STEVE CAMERON: No matter where they are, don't just hand the A's anything
Basically, the M’s were trying to win the lottery, and like most people who rely on luck for a quick fortune, they wound up tossing that ticket into the nearest garbage can. For a team that’s been beset by injuries, and HAS to do “every little thing” properly, this was a pretty grim night.

Lakes Middle School eighth graders explore Civil War through demonstrations
Reel dancing was a fine way to spend time in 1800s America. It was popular again Monday during an American Civil War reenactment at Lakes Middle School, where students lined up, faced each other and galloped two-by-two along the rows, dipping and diving through arm arches and clapping along as they gave the Boston Tea Party dance a whirl. “I love the hands-on," eighth grader Jonathan Mohr said. "It’s a lot more educational in my opinion."

Median price, sales, listings all see increase as summer approaches
Jennifer Smock, co-owner and managing broker with Windermere/Coeur d’Alene Realty, said the market is behaving much like it typically does in the spring and summer months. “Buyer interest is increasing as we approach the peak selling season,” she said. “While there is still some hesitation due to interest rates, many consumers who were waiting for rates to drop are beginning to accept the current range as the new normal. This shift in mindset has helped boost market activity during the warmer months.”

Male Menopause, more correctly called “Andropause” is on the rise. Also referred to as grumpy old man syndrome, hypogonadism, irritable male syndrome and hypotestosteronism, andropause effects about 30% of healthy men before the age of 50 and 50% of healthy men greater than 60 years old. Beginning around 30 years of age, male testosterone levels drop about 10% per decade. Androgen (hormone) levels fall as well. In many cases, this decline is more rapid, showing as early as age 40.
