TOGETHER: Virus common enemy

I would like to thank George Miller for taking last Friday off and showing his softer side. It was a pleasure to read him not writing about communists at our door, lazy misguided socialists, evil Democrats and idiot liberals. I think it is one of the first letters of his that I actually read all the way through.

CHANGE: No more cronies

I think there is a feeling that if you do not have a child in public schools, you really do not care about the election for the school board trustees to be held Tuesday, May 17. However, the lion's share of our taxes goes to the public schools. We are all aware of the shocking waste of our taxpayers' money on failed programs and administrative expenses.

ELECTION: Civility missing in action

The impact of election 2010 goes far deeper than which party controls the House or the Senate. The incivility and tone of the 2010 campaign reached a disturbingly new low in American politics. Not only was this evident in the advertising, but we also saw it in candidate debates and forums and in the public discourse. Voters were overwhelmed by millions of dollars in negative ads but didn't know who paid for many of them.

OPINIONS: Speak up, people

Recently, a Press reader decided to take issue with my letter which purported that Joe Biden had created a mass of illegal immigration at our southern border.

I wonder if the news media is finally feeling betrayed by the one person they lobbied for.

CONGRESS: Please answer questions

I’m asking the Coeur d’Alene Press to interview our current congressmen and anyone running for Congress in the fall. I want The Press to ask some important questions so we may be informed voters.

PARADE: Tea Party extends invitations

I would appreciate the opportunity to clear up a misconception that some have regarding the Tea Party. Nationwide, the groups are truly grassroots. Having said that, now I speak only for the Tea Party Patriots of North Idaho.

SCHOOLS: Keep them safe, healthy

As a homeowner, I know that as my home gets older, it is my responsibility to keep it properly maintained. I need to be sure that the furnace is functioning properly, the roof is not compromised, and the infrastructure can keep up with new technologies such as cable and digital internet services. It is expensive, but necessary, to maintain the safety and value of my home.

LETTER: An ugly impression

Freedom of speech is the pillar of our American values and part of what makes this country great. It’s easier than ever to voice our thoughts, which is evident by the number of opinions posted on online publications. Therefore, most of us look to our local newspaper to get information that is unbiased and more informative than what we see online. This was not the case when the Press published ‘Women: Clearly not a fan’.

AMADOR: Approachable, high character

With my six generations of local family and 45 years of local service in industrial relations and job development, I’m dedicated to voting for the best representatives in our area. After extensive direct interviews I found a special person to comment about. Paul Amador — what an easily approachable and highly educated candidate he is. With his Ph.D. in educational leadership and bachelor’s in agricultural economics, he works at the local University of Idaho Center as Director of Program Development.
