LEVIES: Hold legislators accountable

| March 31, 2021 1:00 AM

Jan Studer’s opinion of March 26 regarding supporting school levies leaves one to wonder. I don’t agree that robbing Peter (homeowners) to pay Paul (school districts) is the answer. Jan is right that Idaho is a “bare bones” state when it comes to school funding. We all know that.

But do we all know what our Idaho Constitution has to say about it? READ IT … Article IX, Section 1, of Idaho’s constitution reads: “LEGISLATURE TO ESTABLISH SYSTEM OF FREE SCHOOLS,” etc. The responsibility lies on our legislature, not on property owners. When our legislators refuse to do their duties, what recourse do we have but to vote no? Perhaps an alternative would be for the school districts to set up a GoFundMe account. Everyone would have a choice in the matter.

As for the local “Republicans and his 70 Committeemen” Jan refers to, these people are proudly following our laws as written in the Idaho Constitution.

Kudos to George Silva for his article on illegal immigration and Biden’s failure to keep America safe during a pandemic. President Trump took the heat for confining illegal aliens (criminals) in holding cells but Biden, who can’t even negotiate a flight of stairs, can’t handle the heat so he turns it over to a questionable vice-president.

David Lyons’ My Turn article on CDA2030 is a powerful message. What is CDA2030 hiding? What seems to be a good thing, the wool is being pulled over our eyes and we all lose our freedoms.
