Favorite things about the Silver Valley: Old Mission State Park
At the western entrance to the Silver Valley sits the Mission of the Sacred Heart, the crown jewel of Old Mission State Park. While technically sitting in Kootenai County, Silver Valley residents have an attachment to the Mission beyond what most of their neighbors to the west experience. Mary Davis is one such resident.

Man urges city to reduce Atlas Road speed limit to ease traffic noise
Sims called for the City Council to lower the speed limit on Atlas Road between Prairie and Hanley avenues, a flat, one-mile stretch, to 25 mph from 35 mph with about 100 homes on both sides. He said about 200 adults and children are being adversely affected by “loud and continuous noise from autos.” He turned in a petition with 45 signatures backing him up, and cited studies that show lowering speed limits is the “best and cheapest way to abate noise from autos.”
MY TURN: Idaho's child care crisis: Rising costs force health care workers out of the workforce, impacting businesses and families
Recent findings from the Idaho Department of Labor reveals that Idaho's overall workforce is significantly affected by the escalating cost and limited accessibility of childcare, with a particularly strong impact on healthcare workers. The financial strain and lack of childcare options are forcing valued healthcare workers to leave their jobs, subsequently hindering healthcare facilities' ability to recruit and retain staff and limiting the earning potential of parents in healthcare roles. The United Way of North Idaho (UWNI) is actively working to bring attention to the childcare crisis to support all local families, including those essential to our healthcare system, and finding long-term solutions.

OPINION: Elon Musk’s massive collection of personal data is a threat to all Americans
A bipartisan group of state attorneys general should be commended for calling public attention to the need for Americans to protect the privacy of their generic data. The AGs warn that about 15 million customers of DNA testing company 23andMe are in danger of having their personal genetic information fall into unsafe hands because of the company’s bankruptcy. The AGs advise customers on how to protect their data.

How Utah dentists are preparing patients for the first statewide fluoride ban
Florida is poised to become the second state to ban fluoride under a bill that Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday he would sign soon. The Ohio and South Carolina legislatures are considering similar measures. Homeland Security chief says travelers with no REAL ID can fly for now, but with likely extra steps
The Transportation Security Administration warned people who don’t have the REAL ID to show up early and be prepared for advanced screening to avoid causing delays. “I do not have a belief that this will cause people to miss their flights if they take that additional time in," said Thomas Carter, the TSA's Federal Security Director in New Jersey. "I think there’s that self-responsibility of the law that they need to know, give themselves that extra time, and if they do that, they shouldn’t have an issue.”
