OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
SHOOTINGS: Look for actual cause
Today it’s hard to read a newspaper or watch a newscast without some story of a violent shooting spree or a vicious assault somewhere:
RIGHTS: Plenty to go around
Some believe civil rights are like an 8-inch loaf of bread. If they cut out slabs for women, gays, Jews, ebony, tan or gold Americans there is less civil rights left for them.
CONTEST: Not all winners recognized
I believe the folks in charge of the Top 30 under 40 program owe our community an apology. I believe the 26 individuals who won are great professionals and I am excited to see them represent Coeur d’Alene. I cannot…
CONGRESS: Talk your walk, folks
Justa’ wondern’. How many of those in Congress who vote to defund the Obama health care would also support defunding their own 1st class health care as paid by the U.S. Government?
EXCHANGE: New world for Idahoans
This week, Idaho citizens stand to benefit greatly from the launch of the state-run health insurance exchange, officially named, “Your Health Idaho.” The health exchange will offer 161 health insurance plans that w…
POLICE: Chief should be local
The Gospel according to the meandering diatribe of Tony Stewart. Seems the so-called expertise Mr. Stewart seems to flaunt could be better served in L.A., Detroit, and especially Chicago instead of continuing to sp…
SOUZA: Will listen to her constituents
I’m writing this in response to Sholeh Patrick’s recent article casting doubt on the viability of local referendums giving guidance to elected officials. These votes would be advisory in nature and would not hold a…
OFFICER: A little compassion, please

MOOSE: In search of more moose
I enjoyed the picture in Monday’s paper of the moose wandering around Coeur d’Alene. He was just probably looking for a Moose Lodge!
THEATER: Go back to glory days
The elephant in the auditorium no one seems to want to talk about is Roger Welch. A director without a social agenda who sticks to the classics without a message will take the summer theater back to the glory it us…
MAIL: Delivering wrong message
I work as a landscaper-groundskeeper in a 55-plus retirement community in Coeur d’Alene. I was pruning some bushes behind a postal collection box and had put a plastic garbage can full of limbs on the street within…
KNIVES: Thanks for all the help
Purple Heart recipients of our previous wars were presented with a total of 18 Buck commemorative knives on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Post Falls American Legion Post 143. Two of these were Posthumous awards, prese…
SATELLITE: Know what you're getting
Beware of false advertising! I received an ad proclaiming a great deal of “Only $19.99 a month for DirecTV.” Wow! I bit! The installer placed the dish on my roof and then came in with papers to sign.
CLIMATE: Same ol' naysayers
Here we go again! The right wing Michelle Bachmann followers are out in force backing fellow radical Cliff Harris. I could see the letters denouncing Global Climate Change from miles away. I don’t really have the w…
