SATELLITE: Know what you're getting

| September 29, 2013 9:00 PM

Beware of false advertising! I received an ad proclaiming a great deal of “Only $19.99 a month for DirecTV.” Wow! I bit! The installer placed the dish on my roof and then came in with papers to sign.

He proceeded to explain that it was a 24-month contract and there would also be an additional charge of $25 a month to rent the receiver (without which I wouldn’t get a picture). I complained that their promotion was false advertising. Had I known that I would be paying $50 a month (with tax), I would not have changed from my previous server.

He further explained that if I canceled the service before 24 months I would be charged $20 a month for unused months. I questioned what would happen if I should have to move unexpectedly. The answer was that I would still have to pay! So I was trapped. And very unhappy!

Hope others will learn from my bitter experience. I’m stuck with TV programming that is totally unsatisfactory for the next two years!
